Aciclovir 200mg, 400mg, 800mg Tablets are antiviral drugs. These are used in the treatment of infections caused by the virus. It is mainly used to treat genital herpes infections. It is sold with the brand name Zovirax and Acivir all over the world. Acyclovir can be used in topical, injectable or oral form.

Uses:

• It is used to treat chickenpox.
• Acivir is also used to treat shingles and cold sores.

 

How does it work?

When a virus enters the body it reproduces fastly in place of host cells. So, when the Aciclovir 200mg, 400mg, 800mg Tablets are administered into the body it acts as a specific inhibitor of the virus DNA polymerase. Hence, the virus binds to antiviral drugs rather than its nucleotide and stops the production of the DNA.

 

Dosage:

• The dose of the Zovirax depends upon the condition of the patient, that is why take it according to the doctor’s prescription.
• The recommended dose of the drug at the initial stage is 200mg and given every 4hours 5 times daily.
• This drug is taken with or without food through an oral route. Hence, it is not chewed or crushed but swallowed wholly.
• The effects of the drug are shown after a few weeks but the effective results are shown when treated at the initial stage of the virus outbreak.
• Do not skip any dose of the drug and continue the medication until the prescribed drugs are finished.

 

Side effects

• The common side effects of the Aciclovir 200mg, 400mg, 800mg Tablets drug includes vomiting, diarrhoea, G.I. irritation and rashes on the skin which may disappear after your body adjusts to the drug.
• You can even observe allergic reactions such as itching, swelling in the body.
• Anaemia, decreased and painful urination, mood changes, shaky movements, slurred speech are the adverse effects of Zovirax If any of these symptoms are observed then you need to immediately consult your physician.
• Irregular heartbeat, bleeding, yellowish skin, vision problems, abdominal pain can be seen under rare conditions and should consult the doctor immediately.

 

Contraindications:

• Let your doctor know if you have any allergic reactions with the drug or with an active component present in the Aciclovir 200mg, 400mg, 800mg Tablets
• Have a word with your doctor if you have any health-related issues such as kidney disease or a weak immune system so that he can adjust the dose of the drug.
• This drug makes you feel drowsy so avoid driving after the administration of the medicine.
• Intake of alcohol may be harmful during this drug therapy.
• This drug used to treat the herpes virus temporarily. It doesn’t protect you from the spread of the virus.
• Zovirax drug is used when needed in pregnant women or else it can be avoided.

The studies show no harm to the infants even if the drug passes into breast milk. Hence, please consult your doctor if you are a lactating mother before the use of this medication.
