Goserelin 3.6mg, 10.8mg Depot PF Syringe is an anticancer drug. It is a non-steroidal androgen receptor inhibitor. It belongs to the class of Antiandrogen and Antineoplastic. Zoladex is the universal brand name for this drug. However, it is also known by the name Zoladex LA in the Indian medical market.
Purpose:
- Zoladex is indicated for the treatment of prostate cancer suitable for hormonal manipulation.
- It is also used in alleviating symptoms of endometriosis including pain and reduces the number and size of endometrial lesions.
- It shrinks the lesions and causes cessation of menses in the majority of patients thereby improving hematological status.
Mechanism:
Zoladex LA syringe may transiently increase serum testosterone concentrations in men and serum oestradiol concentrations in women.
Dosage:
- Strictly as prescribed by your doctor.
- The recommended dosage of Goserelin 3.6mg, 10.8mg Depot PF Syringe for effective results is 10.8 mg injected subcutaneously every 3 months, for adult men.
- For adult women, the recommended dosage of Zoladex LA is 10.8 mg injected subcutaneously, every 12 weeks.
- No dosage adjustment for elderly people and patients with renal impairment is required.
Side effects:
- Common side effects of Zoladex LA are back pain, chest pain, headache, constipation, nausea, diarrhea, vomiting, anemia, weight gain, dizziness, rash, sweating, lightheadedness, and fatigue.
- Serious side effects of this drug are asthma, sinusitis, cataract, dysuria, leg cramps, syncope, urinary tract disorder, heart arrest, edema, alopecia, skin carcinoma, photosensitivity, myalgia, gout among others.
- If any of the above-mentioned side effects persist for long, or bother you, consult your doctor as early as possible.
Precautions and measures:
- The safety of Goserelin 3.6mg, 10.8mg Depot PF Syringe has not been established in children under the age of 12 years.
- If you have had a medical history of liver disease, heart problems, or diabetes, inform your doctor before starting with this medication.
- Monitor your blood glucose levels regularly, if you’re a diabetes patient.
- Regular liver and kidney function tests might be required as per your condition.
- Do not increase, decrease, or stop taking the dose of Zoladex at your own convenience.
- This medication should at least be taken for 2 years or 730 days continuously, or until the disease doesn’t stop.
- Needles after use should not be recapped.
- Special care should be taken to not to intervene in injection into the blood vessel
Interactions:
- Do not consume Warfarin along with Goserelin 3.6mg, 10.8mg Depot PF Syringe.
- Any person who experiences a hypersensitivity reaction to the active salt of this drug, should not consume it.
Drugs that contradict Zoladex are Asteizole, Cisapride, and Terfenadine.
