Daclizumab 25mg Injection is an Immunosuppressant agent. It is a  monoclonal antibody produced by recombinant DNA technology.  It includes cyclosporine and corticosteroids. Zenapax is the universal name of this drug by which it is available in the medical market.

 

Purpose:

It is used to decrease the frequency of relapses in patients suffering from Relapsing-Remitting Multiple Sclerosis.

 

Mechanism:

The functioning of T-cells, which are a type of White Blood Cells, is blocked by Daclizumab 25mg Injection. This helps in preventing the damage that can be caused to the spinal cord and brain. And hence, due to the reduction of damage, the disability due to these disorders is prevented.

 

Dosage:

  • Strictly as prescribed by your doctor.
  • The recommended dosage of Zenapax for effective results is 1.0 mg/kg in adults and pediatric patients.
  • The standard course is of five doses, at the interval of 14 days each.
  • 0 mg/kg of Daclizumab 25mg Injection should be ,ixed with 50mL of sterile 0.9% sodium chloride solution.

 

Side effects:

  • Common side effects are nausea, vomiting, dizziness, sleepiness, lightheadedness, eczema, bronchitis, injection site reactions, dermatitis, upper respiratory tract infection, fever, and headache.
  • Severe side effects of this solution are urinary retention, prickly sensation, diabetes mellitus, pleural effusion, hirsutism, arthralgia, myalgia, renal insufficiency, urinary tract disorder, night sweat, vision blurred, excessive sweating, among others.
  • If any of the above-mentioned side effects persist for long, consult your doctor right away.

 

Precautions and measures:

  • This Injection is given as an injection under the skin by the healthcare provider only.
  • If you experience suicidal thoughts or unusual changes in behaviour or mood during the tenure of Daclizumab 25mg Injection, inform your doctor about the same.
  • Check your liver function before starting treatment and regularly thereafter.
  • Prohibit or at the very least limit your consumption of alcohol and marijuana as they can cause a lot of sleepiness and dizziness.
  • Limit your time in sunlight. Always be fully clothed and wear sunscreen whenever outdoors.
  • Zenapax can lead to an increase in potassium levels in the body. Before taking any extra supplements for the same, ask your doctor.
  • This injection is absorbed via the lungs and skin and therefore should not be used by pregnant and lactating women.
  • It is meant for single use only.
  • Make sure the nib of injection doesn’t come in contact with the blood vessel.

 

Interactions:

Some products that can react with Zenapax and produce negative results are Mifepristone, Tacrolimus, Boceprevir, Spironolactone among others.
