Drospirenone (DSRP) 3 mg and Ethinyl Estradiol (EE) 0.03 mg tablets marketed with brand name Yasmin is a contraceptive pill.

Uses:

Yasmin is the combination of estrogen and progestin hormone. It is used for:

  • To prevent pregnancy as a birth control measure.
  • For treating the symptoms of premenstrual dysphoric disorder (PMDD).

 

Dosage:

Each blister of tablet contains 28 tablets. 21 of them are yellow and 7 are white. One tablet of Yasmin should be taken orally per day.

  • Take one yellow tablet daily starting from the first day of menstrual cycle.
  • Yellow tablets should be taken for 21 consecutive days.
  • Take one white tablet on day 22.
  • Can be taken with or without meal.

 

Side effects:

Apart from being effective if taken as directed, Drospirenone (DSRP) 3 mg and Ethinyl Estradiol (EE) 0.03 mg tablets can cause some common to serious side effects. Consult your doctor if you experience any major side effect.

Precautions and measures:

Some precautionary measures should be taken while taking Yasmin such as:

  • Inform your doctor if you are allergic to ethinyl estradiol or progestins.
  • Medicine should be stopped if blood clot forms in arteries or veins (condition called thromboembolism).
  • If you have delivered a baby, start Yasmin after 4 weeks not before that.
  • If you are lactating let your doctor know.
  • Inform your doctor if you are suffering from hypertension as the medicine may increase the risk of haemorrhagic strokes.
  • Inform your doctor if you have/had breast cancer as the drug may make your condition worse.
  • Medicine should be stopped if jaundice develops.
  • Inform your doctor if you have any liver disorder.
  • Inform your doctor if you have migraine as the drug may elevate the pain.
  • Inform your doctor if you have diabetes as the medicine may affect blood sugar.
