Details
Levocetirizine Dihydrochloride 5mg Tablets are antihistamine and antiallergic agents. It is known by the name Xyzal universally.
Purpose:
- Levocetirizine Dihydrochloride 5mg Tablets are used for the relief of symptoms associated with allergic rhinitis, and perennial rhinitis.
- Allergic conjunctivitis and insect bites are treated with this drug.
- Uncomplicated skin manifestations of chronic idiopathic urticaria are also treated with Xyzal
Mechanism:
The effects of histamine (a chemical messenger) are blocked by Xyzal drug in the body, due to which the allergies are reduced and prevented.
Dosage:
- Strictly as prescribed by your doctor.
- The recommended dosage of this drug for effective results is 5-10 mg twice a day for adults.
- For adolescents, the recommended dose is 5-10 mg, once daily.
- For children between 2-6 years of age, 5 mg half tablet is recommended daily.
- Dosage adjustment for the elderly and people with renal impairment needs to be done by the doctor.
Side effects:
- Common side effects of Levocetirizine Dihydrochloride 5mg Tablets are dizziness, sleepiness, headache, lightheadedness, vomiting, dry mouth, stomachache, among others.
- Serious effects are dyspepsia, influenza, asthenia, pancreatitis, pulmonary eosinophilia, epistaxis, palpitations, hypoesthesia, and hypersensitivity reactions.
- In rare cases, a person might experience nightmares and sleepwalk.
- If any of the above-mentioned effects persist for long, visit your doctor right away, before the situation worsens.
- Thrombocytopenia is a blood system disorder, which might show up in some patients due to the consumption of Xyzal.
Precautions and measures:
- These tablets should not be used to treat patients who experience acute asthma attacks.
- It should not be substituted for oral corticosteroids or inhaled.
- Pregnant and lactating women should consume Levocetirizine Dihydrochloride 5mg Tablets only under the strict guidance of their doctor.
- If you have exercise-induced asthma, take this capsule 2 hours before the workout.
- Do not increase, decrease, or stop the treatment at your convenience.
- Avoid taking the tablet at night.
- Limit your intake of alcohol and marijuana as it can lead to extreme dizziness.
- Quit smoking.
- If itching occurs, do it with a fresh cotton cloth.
- Do not touch the affected area with your hands.
- Avoid indulging in the tasks that require utmost attention, such as driving.
- Do not use expired medication.
- It can be mixed in cold water and then given to younger children.
- Store these tablets at room temperature.
- The growth rate of pediatric patients is not hindered by this medicine.
