Omalizumab 150mg Injection is an Anti Asthmatic agent. It belongs to the class of Monoclonal antibody drugs. It is known by the name Xolair, worldwide. This injection is a DNA-derived humanized recombinant.

 

Purpose:

  • Xolair is indicated for the reduction of asthma exacerbations and control of asthma symptoms.
  • In adults and adolescents, of 12 years of age and above, this drug is indicated for chronic idiopathic urticaria.

 

Dosage:

  • Strictly as prescribed by your doctor.
  • The recommended dosage of Omalizumab 150mg Injection for chronic idiopathic urticaria is 300mg by subcutaneous injection every four weeks.
  • The recommended dosage for allergic asthma is 75-600 mg, depending upon the current health status and response to the treatment of the patient.

 

Side effects:

  • Common side effects of Omalizumab 150mg Injection are headache, viral infection, pharyngitis, coughing, sinusitis, dizziness, lightheadedness, and nausea.
  • Serious side effects of Xolair are immunosuppression, glaucoma, and cataracts, epistaxis, ulcerations, Candida albicans infection, impaired wound healing, Hypothalamic-Pituitary-Adrenal axis effects, including growth reduction.
  • Rare side effects of this drug are vision problems, swelling of feet, blood-tinged mucus, increased urination, and trouble breathing.
  • If any of the above-mentioned side effects persist for long, consult your doctor right away.

 

Precautions and measures:

  • If you have had a medical history of cataracts, glaucoma, tuberculosis, herpes eye infection, ulcers, or any recent surgery, inform your doctor about the same, before starting with Omalizumab 150mg Injection.
  • In unlikely cases, due to the prolonged use of this solution, the child’s growth might be hindered.
  • Patients suffering from untreated fungal, bacteria, systemic viral infections, or ocular herpes simplex should use this drug under the strict guidance of their doctor.
  • Use of excessive doses may suppress the Hypothalamic-Pituitary-Adrenal axis function.
  • Pregnant and lactating women should only use Xolair drug if prescribed by the doctor.
  • It is not indicated for the treatment of acute asthma exacerbations, acute bronchospasm or
  • status asthmaticus.
  • The safety of this medication has not been established in children under the age of 6 years, and hence should not be given to them without the guidance of a d doctor.
  • This medication is meant for single use only.
  • Make sure the nib of injection doesn’t come in contact with the blood vessel.
  • Prohibit or at the very least limit your intake of alcohol and marijuana, as it will increase your dizziness and sleepiness.
  • Do not get any vaccinations or immunizations done during the tenure of this drug.

Wash your hands thoroughly after the administration of the injection.
