Capecitabine 500mg Tablets are Anti Cancer agents. It belongs to the class of drugs called Antimetabolite and Antineoplastics. Xeloda is the universal name of this drug by which it is available in the medical market.

 

Purpose:

  • In combination with Docetaxel is indicated for patients diagnosed with locally advanced or metastatic breast cancer.
  • Duke’s stage C and high-risk stage B colon cancer are also treated with this drug.
  • Patients with metastatic colorectal cancer are given this medication.
  • Capecitabine 500mg Tablets in combination with platinum-based chemotherapy are used for curing oesophagogastric cancer.

 

Dosage:

  • Strictly as prescribed by your doctor.
  • The recommended dosage of Xeloda for effective results is 1250mg, twice a day, for 2 weeks.
  • It should be swallowed with water, within 30 minutes of a meal.
  • After two weeks, there is supposed to be one week of resting period.

 

Side effects:

  • Common side effects of Capecitabine 500mg Tablets are nausea, diarrhea, fever, lightheadedness, headache, vomiting among others.
  • Serious side effects of these tablets are peripheral neuropathy, hypotension, cardiac toxicity, pulmonary toxicity, posterior reversible encephalopathy syndrome, gastrointestinal toxicity, neutropenia, tumor lysis syndrome, hepatic toxicity, thrombotic microangiopathy among others.
  • If any of the above-mentioned side effects persist for long, consult your doctor right away.

 

Precautions and measures:

  • Keep a regular check on your blood pressure while you’re on medication for these tablets.
  • The safety of this drug in children has not been established.
  • If you have had a medical history of coronary artery disease, high blood pressure, aneurysm, break in the aorta, liver disease, heart attack, or any recent injury, inform your doctor.
  • Low levels of magnesium and potassium in the blood.
  • This medication can result in delayed healing of wounds.
  • If you’re planning to have surgery, during the tenure of this drug, discuss the risks and benefits with your doctor.
  • Pregnant women are advised not to consume Capecitabine 500mg Tablets as it is absorbed through the lungs and skin and can harm the unborn baby.
  • Breastfeeding is not recommended during the tenure of Tarceva tablets and for 2 weeks after discontinuing the drug.
  • Xeloda tablets should be stored at 25°C temperature.
  • Do not bring the tablets under a direct source of light.
  • These tablets should not be cut, broken, or split.
  • Do not use expired medication.
  • The safety of these tablets has not been established for pediatric use.
  • Keep it away from kids and pets.
  • Do not increase, decrease or stop the medication at your own ease, without the consultation of your doctor.

Interactions:

Allopurinol is a product that can interact with Xeloda drug and produce reverse effects.
