Tramadol HCl 37.5mg + Paracetamol 325mg Tablets are used as analgesics (pain-relieving drugs). This drug is used to treat severe pain. It is known as Ultracet all over the world.
How does it work?
Ultracet contains two drugs Tramadol and Paracetamol. So, when the drug is administered into the body Tramadol acts by binding to the opioid receptor and weakly inhibiting the norepinephrine and serotonin. Paracetamol is a central analgesic and the function of the drug isn’t fully known but it is said that they act on central nerves and show its effects by activating certain hormones.
Dosage:
- Read the instructions given on the tablet leaflet or in the patient information leaflet(PIL).
- The dose of the Tramadol HCl 37.5mg + Paracetamol 325mg Tablets depends upon the condition of the patient and should be given as directed by the physician.
- The recommended dose of the drug is 2 to 4 tablets daily and is given through an oral route of administration.
- Do not chew or crush the tablet in your mouth. It should be swallowed whole.
- The dose is given every 4 to 6 hours with or without food.
- Ultracet tablets show their effects after 1 hour of administration of the dose.
- You should start the medication at low doses as higher doses may accumulate the drug in the body and cause toxicity.
Side effects:
- The common side effects of the Tramadol HCl 37.5mg + Paracetamol 325mg Tablets include vomiting, nausea, constipation, dizziness and sweating may occur. These symptoms will disappear once your body adjusts to the drug.
- Sleep apnea, behavioural changes, G.I. disturbances may occur such as abdominal pain, ulcers, difficulty in urination etc are some of the adverse effects of this drug.
- If Tiredness, loss of appetite, fluttering heartbeat, seizures observed then please consult your doctor.
- Serotonin toxicity may occur due to the long term use of the drug.
Contraindications:
- Have a detailed discussion with your doctor if you have any allergic reactions with the Tramadol HCl 37.5mg + Paracetamol 325mg Tablets or its active constituents.
- Avoid the intake of alcohol until you are on this drug therapy.
- Do not drive after the administration of this drug as it may cause dizziness in the patient.
- Have a word with your doctor if you have any cardiac problems so that he can adjust the dose of the drug.
- Avoid using this drug if you have any renal impairments or liver disorders because they may cause toxicity in the patients.
- In pregnant women, these drugs are used if needed as they may cause abnormalities to the foetus.
Ultracet tablets are strictly contraindicated in lactating mothers as some quantities of the drug may pass into the milk and affect the infants.
