Drug Name: Lapatinib 250mg Tablets
Details
Lapatinib 250mg Tablets are Anti Cancer drugs. This prescription medicine is used to treat breast cancer. In India, as well as internationally it is known by the names of Tykerb and Tyverb.
Purpose:
- Tykerb, in combination with capecitabine, is used by patients suffering with advanced or metastatic breast cancer whose tumors overexpress HER2 (ErbB2) and whose tumors have progressed after treatment with an anthracycline and a taxane, and who have progressed on prior trastuzumab therapy in the metastatic setting.
- This drug, in combination with paclitaxel, is indicated for the first-line treatment of patients with metastatic breast cancer whose tumors overexpress HER2 (ErbB2) and for whom trastuzumab is not appropriate.
- Lapatinib 250mg Tablets, in combination with an aromatase inhibitor, is indicated for the treatment of postmenopausal women with hormone receptor-positive metastatic breast cancer whose tumors overexpress HER2 (ErbB2) and for whom hormonal therapy is indicated.
Dosage:
- Strictly as prescribed by your doctor.
- The medication is indicated on the parameters of your age, current health condition, and response to the treatment. Therefore, the dosage varies from person to person, having the same disease.
Side effects:
- Common side effects of these tablets are nausea, vomiting, dizziness, sleepiness, diarrhea, headache, and lightheadedness.
- Serious side effects are Interstitial Lung Disease (ILDF), renal failure, gastrointestinal perforation, hepatotoxicity with or without hepatic impairment, cerebrovascular accident, bullous and exfoliative skin disorders, ocular disorders, microangiopathic hemolytic anemia with thrombocytopenia, and hemorrhage in patients taking Warfarin.
- In rare cases, an eye disorder ocular inflammation including uveitis might show up.
- If any of the above-mentioned side effects persist for long, consult your doctor right away.
Precautions and measures:
- Tell your doctor if you have serious allergic reactions with Lapatinib 250mg Tablets or Cisplatin.
- Make sure you tell your doctor about the other medicines you are using, before taking this drug.
- It is not advisable to take any vaccination during this medical therapy.
- Lactating mothers should avoid using these medications.
- It is strictly avoided in pregnant women as these medications may harm the fetus.
- It should be contraindicated in patients who have severe bone marrow depression and myelosuppression.
- These medications are avoided in patients who are diagnosed with renal disorder.
- Tyverb tablets should be stored at 25°C temperature.
- Do not bring the tablets under a direct source of light.
- These tablets should not be cut, broken, or split.
- Do not use expired medication.
- The safety of Tykerb tablets has not been established for pediatric use.
- Keep it away from kids and pets.
- Do not increase, decrease or stop the medication at your own ease, without the consultation of your doctor.
Interactions:
- Drugs that can affect the working of Tykerb are Tacrolimus, Trazodone, Irinotecan, Digoxin, Erythromycin, Saquinavir, Phenytoin, Rifabutin among others.
Some other medicines, if consumed along with Lapatinib 250mg Tablets, can affect the rhythm of the heart, such as Sotalol, Dofetilide, Amiodarone, Pimozide, Quinidine, Procainamide Clarithromycin, Itraconazole, among others.
