Adsorbed Diphtheria, Tetanus and Pertussis Vaccine used to prevent diseases such as Diphtheria, Tetanus, and Whooping cough. It is indicated for active immunization of children up to 7 years of age. It is known as Tripacel all over the world.

How does it work?

Adsorbed Diphtheria, Tetanus and Pertussis Vaccine is a combination of three vaccines. When a vaccine is administered, the body recognizes invading viruses or bacteria and stimulates the immune system to produce antibodies (which are proteins) that kill the virus. It protects from further invasive disease-causing agents.

 

Dosage:

 

  • Tripacel vaccine should be given by an experienced doctor.
  • The recommended dose is 0.5mL through the intramuscular route i.e., in the anterolateral thigh or the deltoid muscle of the upper arm.
  • Three doses were given at 6, 10, and 14 weeks of age.
  • Two booster doses of vaccination at 16-24 months and 5-6 years of age.
  • These vaccines should not be administered subcutaneously.

 

Side effects:

  • Redness
  • Swelling
  • Fever
  • Loss of appetite
  • Soreness at the site of injection
  • fussiness

Adverse side effects:

  • High fever and chills
  • Seizures
  • Vomiting
  • drowsiness

Contraindications

  • Adsorbed Diphtheria, Tetanus and Pertussis Vaccine should be avoided in children who undergo severe anaphylactic reactions after a previous dose.
  • Tripacel vaccine should be avoided by patients who have allergic reactions to any component in the vaccine.
  • It should be contraindicated in children who are diagnosed with any neurological condition after a previous dose
  • Vaccination should be avoided in children who have severe illnesses.
  • A separate sterile syringe should be used for every child to avoid the transmission of infections.
  • Adsorbed Diphtheria, Tetanus, and Pertussis Vaccine should not be given to children above 7 years of age.

 

Precautions:

  • Recapping of needles after use should be avoided.
  • Care should be taken to ensure that injection does not intervene with the blood vessels.
  • Doctors should have keen observation on the increase in temperature that might occur during the vaccination.
  • Caps of the syringe which contain rubber latex may cause allergic reactions. Therefore proper care needs to be taken.

 

Storage:

  • Tripacel vaccines should be stored in the refrigerator at 2°C to 8°C.
  • Do not freeze the vaccine.
  • Vaccine vials should be kept away from the light.

Dispose the reconstituted vaccine if not used within 24 hours.
