Terbinafine Hydrochloride 250 mg tablets available by brand names Lamisil 250 mg tablets (international) and Terbicip 250 mg tablets (national) is an antifungal antibiotic.

Uses:

Lamisil 250 mg tablets are used for the treatment of fungal infections of finger and toe nails (also termed as onychomycosis). It is also used to treat certain skin infections, athlete’s foot and ringworm. The drug works by inhibiting the growth of fungus that is responsible for causing the infection.

 

Dosage:

Dosage of Terbinafine Hydrochloride 250 mg tablets varies depending upon the type of infection to be treated and age. General dosage given is:

• Onychomycosis- 250 mg continuously for 6 to 12 weeks.
• Times corporis- 250 mg in single or divided dose for 2-4 weeks in every 12 hours.
• Times pedis- 250 mg in single or divided dose for 2-6 weeks in every 12 hours.
• Times capitis- 125-250 mg per day for 6 weeks.

 

Side effects:

Side effects caused by Terbicip 250 mg tablets are both major and minor. Major side effects are experienced by only few. In case symptoms persist, see your doctor.

• Headache
• Pain in abdomen
• Allergies such as skin rash, itching
• Diarrhoea
• Dizziness
• Change of taste
• Vision changes
• Liver dysfunction
• Spinning sensation
• Appetite loss
• Tiredness
• Jaundice
• Dark coloured urine
• Smell disturbances

 

Precautions and measures:

Although side effects caused by Terbicip 250 mg tablets are not serious, precautions should be taken while being on the medication such as:

• Inform your doctor if you are allergic to active ingredients of the drug to avoid serious allergic reactions.
• Inform your doctor if you had/have any kidney or liver problems.
• The medicine makes you feel dizzy. Do not drink alcoholic beverages, drive or operate heavy machines to valid any further complications.
• Terbinafine Hydrochloride 250 mg tablets make your skin sensitive to the sun. Limit your time of exposure to the sun. Use sunscreen to avoid direct sun light to fall on your skin
• The drug is not recommended for unborn and new born baby. Confirm your doctor if you are pregnant or lactating.
