Paclitaxel 30mg, 100mg, 300mg Injection is an anticancer drug that is supplied as an aqueous solution. Taxol is the universal name of this drug by which it is available in the market. It can be used in combination with cisplatin.

Purpose:

  • Taxol injection slows down or stops the growth of cancer cells.
  • It is a subsequent therapy for treating advanced carcinoma of the ovary.
  • This injection is also used to cure adjuvant node-positive breast cancer.
  • Paclitaxel 30mg, 100mg, 300mg Injection in combination with cisplatin, is used to cure non-small cell lung cancer in patients who are not prone to radiation therapy.
  • It can also be used as a second-line treatment for AIDS-related Kaposi’s sarcoma.

 

Mechanism:

This drug stabilizes microtubules by preventing depolymerization and promotes the assembly of microtubules from tubulin dimers. This stability results in the inhibition of cancer cells and of the reorganization of the microtubule network that is crucial for mitotic cellular functions and vital interphase.

 

Dosage:

  • For node-positive breast cancer: 175 mg every three weeks for 4 courses.
  • For non-small cell lung carcinoma: 135 mg of Taxol followed by 75 mg of cisplatin, every 3 weeks.
  • For AIDS-related Kaposi’s sarcoma: 100 mg every 3 weeks.

 

Side effects:

  • Neutropenia
  • Leukopenia
  • Thrombocytopenia
  • Anemia
  • Red cell transfusions
  • Bradycardia
  • Hypotension
  • Mucositis
  • Alkaline phosphatase elevation
  • Temporary hair loss
  • Changes in heart rate and blood pressure are common side effects of Paclitaxel 30mg, 100mg, 300mg Injection.
  • If you experience yellowing of skin, pain or swelling in calf, blood in cough, dark urine, easy bruising, seizures, or convulsions, visit your doctor immediately, before the situation worsens.
  • Other mild side effects are mouth sores, diarrhea, nausea, vomiting, joint pain, and numbness among others.

 

Precautions and measures:

  • If you’ve had an allergic reaction to cabazitaxel or docetaxel, this medication is not for you.
  • Prohibit or at the very least limit your intake of alcohol and marijuana, as it will increase your dizziness and sleepiness.
  • Do not get any vaccinations or immunizations done during the tenure of this drug.
  • Keep washing your hands thoroughly.
  • Use sharp objects like nail cutters cautiously, to prevent bruising and bleeding.
  • While being on this treatment, men should not plan to father a child. This drug is likely to affect sperm production and harm the unborn baby.
  • Paclitaxel 30mg, 100mg, 300mg Injection is absorbed via lungs and skin and therefore should not be used by pregnant and lactating women.
  • This medication is meant for single use only.
  • Make sure the nib of injection doesn’t come in contact with the blood vessel.

 

Interactions:

  • Products such as opioid, hydrocodone, alcohol, marijuana, lorazepam, zolpidem, alprazolam, carisoprodol, cetirizine, cyclobenzaprine, or diphenhydramine can cause extreme drowsiness if consumed along with Taxol.

Other medicines such as azathioprine, sulfamethoxazole, or trimethoprim can produce negative effects of this drug in the body.
