Tapentadol 50mg, 75mg, 100mg Tablets is an opioid medication. These drugs are used as analgesics which are used to treat moderate to severe pain. It is known as Nucynta internationally. In India, it is known as Tapenta.

 

How does it work?

Tapenta belongs to the class of opioid analgesics. When the drug is administered into the body it acts by inhibiting the pain receptor in the brain centrally showing the dual actions such as by acting as an agonist of mu-opioid receptor and norepinephrine reuptake inhibitor.

 

Dosage:

  • Read the instructions carefully present on the Tapentadol 50mg, 75mg, 100mg Tablets leaflet or patient information leaflet (PIL) before taking this drug
  • The dose of Nucynta is taken as advised by the doctor.
  • Initially, the recommended dose for extended-release tablets is 50mg twice a day.
  • The dose may vary up to 75mg, 100mg, and 250mg depending on the patient’s condition. The maximum dose for this drug is 600mg.
  • It shows its effect within 30 minutes after oral administration.
  • These drugs are taken with or without food.
  • The dose for immediate release tablets is 50mg, 75mg, 100mg every 4-6 hours depending on the intensity of pain.

 

Side effects:

Tapenta shows some serious side effects

Common side effects:

  • Dizziness
  • Nausea
  • Constipation

Adverse side effects:

  • Troubled breathing
  • Seizures
  • Sleep apnea
  • Painful urination
  • hallucinations
  • Hypersensitivity reactions like rashes, itching.

Drug interactions:

  • Some drugs may interact with Tapenta and can increase the risk of side effects such as Diazepam, Pentazocine, Alprazolam, etc.,

You should not take MAO inhibitors such as Isocarboxazid, Moclobemide as they show fatal drug interaction.
