Testosterone is a male hormone produced in male genital organs, i.e., the testicles. Testosterone injection contains this hormone and is sold under the brand name Sustanon worldwide. It is a pale yellow colour solution for injection. It works by increasing testosterone levels in the body.

 

USES:

  • Sustanon is used to treat men who have low testosterone levels in the body (hypogonadism).
  • Cognitive functions are also improved by this injection.
  • Muscle and bone development.
  • It is also used in females to treat breast cancer.

 

HOW DOES IT WORK?

Testosterone Injection belongs to a class of androgenic hormones. Testosterone helps in the growth and functioning of the male organs. When the drug is administered into the body it binds to androgen receptors and helps to increase testosterone levels by producing synthetic testosterone in the body.

 

DOSAGE:

  • Dosage of this drug is taken as directed by the physician depending upon the patient’s condition.
  • You need to take testosterone injection through an intramuscular route.
  • This medication is taken once in 2 to 3 weeks and it may vary depending upon the dose. It shows its effect gradually.
  • It should be administered under the observation of a doctor to avoid the risks.
  • The patient’s who take these drugs are monitored thoroughly by the doctor.

 

SIDE EFFECTS:

  • Difficulty in breathing, fainting, tiredness and hypersensitivity reactions are its common side effects.
  • Severe adverse effects include hypertension, angina attack, slurred speech and it indicates immediate medical help.
  • Polycythemia and renal impairments may occur.
  • You may have developed anxiety, or depression, long-lasting erection etc.,

 

CONTRAINDICATIONS:

  • Do let your doctor know if you have any allergic reaction with testosterone or the other ingredients present in the Sustanon.
  • Testosterone injections are contraindicated to use in pregnancy because of their toxicity.
  • This medication is not used if you have renal disorders.
  • There is a possible risk of increasing red blood cells while taking Testosterone Injection, so you need to be monitored by the doctor because the increase in RBC leads to adverse effects.
  • It is not used by lactating mothers because it may affect the baby.
  • You shouldn’t use the drug if you have malignant tumours, especially breast cancer.
  • Sustanon is not given to patient’s of an elderly age if they develop ageing hypogonadism.
  • This drug is contraindicated to patients having heart and liver disease because it may lead to myocardial infarction.

It is not given to children until needed because the safety of the drug for children is not clearly known.
