Sumatriptan 6 mg Injection available by brand names Imitrex 6 mg Injection (international) and Suminat 6 mg Injection (national) is an anti-migraine drug.

Uses:

Imitrex 6 mg injection belongs to the class of drugs known as triptans. It works by managing the level of serotonin in the brain which causes the narrowing of blood vessels in the brain. Various uses of the drug are:

  • For the treatment of migraine.
  • For treating the symptoms of migraine such as nausea, vomiting, sensitivity to sound, etc.
  • For the treatment of cluster headache.

 

Dosage:

Dosage of Sumatriptan 6 mg injection varies depending upon the severity and age of the patient. General dosage is as follows:

  • Cluster headache- 6 mg subcutaneously with auto injector. Not more than 12 mg in a day.

 

Caution-

The drug is not recommended for the patients below 18 years of age and above 65 years of age as it may have adverse effects.
