Sofalcone 100mg Capsules is an Antiulcerant agent, allopathic in nature. It is used to treat intestinal ulcers and stomach. Internationally it is known as Solon. In India, it is available by the brand name Sofalco. It is a mucosal protective agent. These capsules are a synthetic analog of Sophoradin, which is a natural phenol herb.
Purpose:
- Inhibits the growth of Helicobacter pylori.
- Treats gastritis.
- Acute exacerbation of chronic gastritis.
- Solon is also used for the management of gastric mucosal lesions such as swelling, bleeding, redness, and erosion.
Mechanism:
Sofalcone 100mg Capsules increase the release of certain chemicals in the human body which allows ulcers to prevent from coming back and also heal the present ones. The stomach produces excess acid which leads to the formation of ulcers, Sofalco, in turn, acts as an agent to stop the unnecessary release of the acid. A chemical messenger called prostaglandin is increased with its consumption and cures ulcers. At the same time inflammation is blocked in the stomach by suppressing the release of nitric oxide.
Dosage:
- No universal dosage recommendation for Sofalcone 100mg Capsules.
- As prescribed by your doctor/physician.
- Do not increase or decrease the dosage as per your ease.
- For effective results, a course of 7 weeks can be followed, after which there should be 1 week of eradication therapy.

- If you experience dark urine, anal bleeding, constipation, liver dysfunction, jaundice, or too much coughing, consult your doctor right away.
Precautions and measures:
- Do not crush, chew or break these capsules.
- It should be taken at a fixed time during the tenure.
- Pregnant and lactating women should undergo this medication under the strict surveillance of their doctor.
- Dosage of Sofalco needs to be customized for patients suffering from kidney and liver diseases.
- Store the pack of capsules between 10°-30°C.
- Effectiveness in children for this medication hasn’t been established and hence should be given to them only if prescribed by the doctor.
- Do not use expired medication.
- It shouldn’t be used to treat mild stomach aches.
- It can be taken with or without food.
An antacid during the tenure of Sofalco capsules should only be taken if asked by the doctor.
