Immunoglobulin 3gm, 6gm Injection is an immunomodulatory preparation that acts as a passive immunizing agent ,used to treat immunodeficiency.

It’s main component is immunoglobulin G (IgG) that has a broad spectrum activity against various infectious agents.

It is prepared by immunoglobulins separated from human plasma collected from different donors with higher titres of antibody.

Mechanism of action: It enhances the immunity of the body by apoptosis of B cells and modulation of B cell signaling.It also blocks  binding of antibodies to organ transplant and activation of the complement system.

It is available as Sandoglobulin & Histaglobin in both International and Sandoglobulin  Indian markets.

Uses

  • Immunoglobulin 3gm, 6gm Injection can be used in both adults and children.
  • It is used in both primary and secondary immune deficiency.
  • Histaglobin is used to increase blood platelets in blood disorders like (idiopathic thrombocytopenic purpura(ITP).
  • Immunoglobulin 3gm, 6gm Injection is also used in pretransplant desensitization therapy.
  • Sandoglobulin can also be used in multifocal motor neuropathy, chronic inflammatory demyelinating polyneuropathy and blood disorders due to Kawasaki syndrome.
  • It is used in low doses to prevent infections during plasmapheresis.

 

Dosage

  • Sandoglobulin is available as a single use vial containing colorless or pale yellow ready to use solution.
  • It is given intravenously by healthcare professionals only.
  • It is stored at 2 – 8°C ,away from light.
  • It must be brought to room temperature before use and must be used immediately after opening as it contains no preservatives.
  • Final dosages are determined by the doctor on the basis of factors such as medical condition, age, weight and ongoing medications.
  • Dose and rate of infusion is adjusted to minimise related side effects.

Precautions

  • Immunoglobulin 3gm, 6gm Injection is contraindicated in case of allergy to immunoglobulins and maple syrup urine disease (MUPD).
  • Acute renal failure is seen in patients with pre medical conditions like diabetes mellitus, renal dysfunction, overweight and older patients of age above 65 years.
  • It is used in pregnant and breastfeeding women only if benefits are more than the risks.
  • Just after starting the treatment sudden rise antibodies can lead to false positive blood tests.
  • Tell the doctor about ongoing medications and any allergy before starting the drug.
  • Always tell the doctor about pregnancy or future plan of pregnancy or breastfeeding.

Proper record of the patient receiving the IG and batch number of the preparation must be maintained for future references.
