Details
Rituximab 100mg, 500mg Injection is an Anticancer drug. It is a genetically engineered chimeric human monoclonal antibody. This injection is a colorless, sterile, clear solution that is packed in a single-use vial. Internationally it is known by the name of Rituxan and Mabthera. And in Indian pharmacies, it is available under the brand name Ristova.
Purpose:
Rituximab 100mg, 500mg Injection is used for treating patients suffering with:
- Chronic Lymphocytic Leukaemia (CLL) individually or with other medicines of chemotherapy.
- Non-Hodgkin’s Lymphoma (NHL) with cyclophosphamide and fludarabine.
- Rheumatoid Arthritis (RA)
- Granulomatosis with Polyangiitis (GPA)
Mechanism:
Rituxan injection targets the CD20 antigen available on the surface of mature-B and pre-B lymphocytes. This medication binds with CD20 and mediates B-cell lysis.
Dosage:
- As prescribed by your physician/doctor.
- Recommended infusion of Mabthera for effective results: Initial dosage should be of 100mg per hour to maximum of 400mg per hour.
- Administer this dose of Ristova once a week for 4-8 doses.
- For pediatric patients, the dosage should be 375mg once a week for 4 doses.
Side effects:
- Progressive multifocal leukoencephalopathy
- Bowel obstruction and perforation
- Renal toxicity
- Hepatitis B reactivation with fulminant hepatitis
- Cardiovascular adverse reactions
- Tumor lysis syndrome
- Severe mucocutaneous reactions
- Infusion-related reactions
- Common side effects of Ristova are headache, fever, chills, back pain, rashes, redness at the site of injection, nausea, dizziness, tiredness among others.
Precautions and measures:
- Inform your doctor about your medical history of lung disease, irregular heartbeat, a blood disorder, or any recent infections.
- Prohibit the intake of alcohol and marijuana, as it will cause more sleepiness and dizziness.
- Do not get any vaccinations or immunizations during the tenure of Ristova.
- During pregnancy Rituximab 100mg, 500mg Injection should only be used if necessary.
- Older people are at a greater risk of developing lung and heart problems while on this medication.
- Store it at a cool temperature.
- Keep it away from kids and pets.
- The cap of the vial has rubber latex, which can lead to an allergic reaction.
- Do not expose it to sunlight.
- Be cautious while this injection is being injected. It should not come in contact with the blood vessel.
- A complete blood count should be done before starting this medication.
- Do not stop, start, increase or decrease the dosage at your own ease.
- Do not flush the remains or pour them into a sink.
Interactions:
Some drugs that might react with Rituximab 100mg, 500mg Injection are Tofacitinib, Fingolimod, and Natalizumab.
