Purpose
Restasis ophthalmic emulsion contains cyclosporine, which is used to
- Increase the tear formation in the eyes
- To treat dry eyes in case of certain eye diseases
The Cyclosporin 0.05% ophthalmic emulsion is designed to treat the eyes in case of excessive dryness.
Composition
The product contains cyclosporin 0.05% ophthalmic emulsion which belongs to the category of calcineurin inhibitor group of medicines.
How does it work?
Restasis emulsion works by increasing the tear formation in the eyes in case of certain eye diseases. Due to dryness, the tear apparatus becomes less functional, and hence, the blurry vision persists. Cyclosporin 0.05% ophthalmic emulsion also restores the normal immune system of the eye.
Measures and Precautions
- Use the Restasis ophthalmic emulsion in the same way as directed by the doctor.
- Follow all instructions carefully and do not miss the doses as instructed by the doctor.
- After applying the restasis ophthalmic emulsion, wash hands thoroughly to get rid of any reaction later.
- After applying the Cyclosporin 0.05% ophthalmic emulsion, close the eyes for 2-3 mins and do not blink and squeeze the eyes.
- Do not touch the eyes after application of Restasis Always use the dropper for applying the drops to the eyes.
- Avoid dropping excess emulsion to the eyes. It can cause irritation and damage to the eyes.
- There should be a gap of 15 minutes between two drops when different eye drops are used for the eyes.
- If the patient uses a contact lens, he or she should remove the lens before applying the drops.
- The users should not touch the vial of the dropper to prevent any infection of the eye from the contaminated hands.
- If the patients have any allergies to cyclosporine, then he or she should avoid the use of this emulsion.
Side-effects
As the emulsion is used externally, it does not show any serious side-effects, but there are some common side-effects of it.
- Blurry vision
- Burning of eyes
- Redness of eyes
- Watering of eyes
- Discharge from eyes
- Itching of eyes
- Pain in eyes
- A sensation of foreign minute particles in the eyes
Storage
The ophthalmic emulsion is stored at a temperature of 15-250C. The storage place should be cool and dry. Keep the emulsion away from the reach of children and pets.
Interactions
As the emulsion is only meant for external use, it does not have any interaction with other medicines or drugs.
