Clopidogrel 75mg, 150mg Tablets are Antiplatelets used to treat the acute coronary syndrome. It is easily available worldwide by the name of Plavix.

These drugs are also categorized under the Hematologic and Cardiovascular class. It helps in preventing blood clots and opening the blood vessels. They contain Clopidogrel bisulfate as an active agent which helps in treating heart conditions and are polished with Carnauba wax.

Purpose:

• These tablets help in the prevention of strokes and heart attacks in patients suffering from heart diseases.
• Peripheral vascular disease such as blood circulation disease is also treated with Clopidogrel 75mg, 150mg Tablets.
• If there’s any chest pain or unstable angina, Plavix may be consumed.
• This blocks the platelets from sticking together and helping in the smooth flow of blood in the body.

 

Dosage:

• Plavix should be started with a single loading dose of 150mg.
• After the loading dose, a 75mg tablet should be consumed once daily.
• It is meant to be taken via mouth only.
• It can be taken with or without food.

 

Side effects:

• Diarrhoea, stomach ache, constipation, bruising among others are common side effects of Clopidogrel 75mg, 150mg Tablets.
• If you experience Thrombotic Thrombocytopenic Purpura, which is a blood disorder, immediately consult your doctor.
• In unlikely cases, if there’s serious bleeding in the eyes, brain, stomach or gut drop the medication and visit your doctor.

 

Precautions and measures:

• Grapefruit can increase the side effects and hence should not be consumed along with it.
• If you’ve had any recent surgery for liver or haemophilia, inform your doctor about the same.
• Do not stop the medication without the consultation of your cardiologist.
• Avoid consuming alcohol during the medication of Clopidogrel 75mg, 150mg Tablets.
• Do not take esomeprazole or omeprazole or any medicine with a similar salt simultaneously with Plavix.
• This drug should be stored at a room temperature of 15°C – 30°C.
• Keep them away from the reach of pets and children.
• It shouldn’t be temporarily discounted, this will only increase the risk of cardiovascular events. This can be fatal.

 

Interactions:

• Tipranavir is a product that can react with this medication and reduce its effectiveness.
• If you’re on Aspirin tablets, consult your doctor about whether or not to continue the same with this medicine.
• Ketoconazole, Etravirine, Ticlopidine among others can completely remove the medicine from your body and hence should not be taken simultaneously.

Drugs like Repaglinide and Dasabuvir can reverse the mechanism of Clopidogrel.
