Carboplatin 150mg, 450mg Injection is an anticancer agent. It is used in the treatment of ovarian cancer. It is known with the brand name Paraplatin all over the world.

Uses:

  • This injection is used in the treatment of lung cancer, head cancer, endometrial cancer, and breast cancer.
  • Paraplatin is also used to treat CNS or germ cell tumors.

 

How does it work?

Carboplatin 150mg, 450mg Injection belongs to an antineoplastic family and a platinum coordination compound.  When the drug is administered into the body, it acts by interfering with the duplication of DNA in the nucleus and stops the growth of cancerous cells resulting in the death of the cell.

 

Dosage:

  • The dose of the Paraplatin depends on the condition of the patient.
  • It should be given under the supervision of a qualified doctor in the use of chemotherapeutic agents.
  • The recommended dose for an injectable solution is 10mg/mL (in vials of 50,150, 150, and 600mg) on day one every 4 weeks for 6 cycles.
  • This injection, as a single drug shows the effective response in ovarian carcinoma with a minimum dose of 360mg/m once every 4 weeks.
  • It is given through an intravenous route.

Precautions:

  • Lactating mothers should avoid using these medications.
  • It is strictly avoided in pregnant women as these medications may harm the foetus.
  • It should be contraindicated in patients who have severe bone marrow depression and myelosuppression.
  • These medications are avoided in patients who are diagnosed with renal disorder.

 

Storage:

  • Paraplatin injections should be stored at 25°C and reconstituted vials are stable for 8 hours at room temperature.
  • Reconstituted vials should be disposed of immediately after 8 hours.
  • These injections should be protected from light.

It should be used within 14 days after multiple needle punctures.
