Alendronate 5mg, 10mg, 35mg, 70mg Tablets are a prescription medicine used to treat the symptoms of Osteoporosis caused by menopause or steroid use. It is also known as Fosamax internationally. In India, it is available under the brand name Osteofos.

 

Purpose:

  • Osteofos tablets treat bone disease in women who are at least 5 years past menopause and can not intake estrogen-based products.
  • Calcitonin hormone prevents the breakdown of bones and helps in increasing the density of them.
  • It can also be used in the early treatment of hypercalcemia emergencies.
  • Symptomatic Paget’s Disease

 

Dosage:

  • Before you start the treatment of this medication, carefully read the manufacturer’s printed information leaflet from inside the pack. It will give you more detailed information about the medication.
  • Take the Fosamax tablets in the exact way your doctor tells you to. There are generally three strengths of Alendronate 5mg, 10mg, 35mg, 70mg Tablets.
  • Take your tablet the first thing after getting up in the morning on an everyday basis.
  • If any day, you forget to take your dose in the morning, consume it as soon as you remember. Keep in mind that you must have not eaten any food item 2 hours before and should not consume two hours after it, including water.
  • Osteofos should be consumed on an empty stomach.

 

Side effects:

  • Nausea, vomiting, dizziness, sleepiness, tiredness, diarrhea, headache, runny nose, hot flashes, nosebleed among others are common side effects of Alendronate 5mg, 10mg, 35mg, 70mg Tablets.
  • Adverse side effects of Oseteofos are hypertension, polyuria, abdominal pain, muscle cramps, seizures, convulsions, bronchospasm, visual disturbances, and arthralgia.
  • Skin reactions such as urticaria can also show up by the consumption of these tablets. If any of the above-mentioned effects are experienced, consult your physician immediately before the situation worsens.

 

Precautions and measures:

  • If you’re allergic to calcitonin salmon, inform your doctor about the same before getting on this medication.
  • Include a good amount of vitamin D and calcium in your diet.
  • Do not flush or pour it down the sink when it gets finished.
  • Do not share your prescription of Alendronate 5mg, 10mg, 35mg, 70mg Tablets with anyone.
  • If you have had a history of low calcium levels in the blood, inform your doctor.
  • This medication is not advised to be consumed by pregnant or lactating women.

 

Interactions:

Lithium is one product that can interfere with the activity of Osteofos and cause negative results in the body.
