Orlistat 60mg, 120mg Capsules are anti-obesity agent medication. This drug belongs to the category of gastrointestinal. An active ingredient orlistat present in these tablets helps in weight loss. Internationally people recognize it by the name of Xenical. In India, it is known as Orlitac.
Purpose:
- It aids in losing weight.
- This tablet blocks the enzyme that breaks down fats into simpler substances and helps them to pass outside your body through the stool.
- Losing weight via this medication also helps in reducing many other health risks of high blood pressure, heart disease, and diabetes.
Dosage:
- As directed by your doctor/physician.
- Orlistat 60mg, 120mg Capsules are meant for the consumption of overweight people, above the age of 18 years.
- The recommended dosage for effective results is not more than 3 capsules a day, if self-administered.
- Orlitac should be taken with a low-fat and controlled calorie diet.
- To increase the absorption and effect of this tablet, one multivitamin during bedtime is a must.
- Results should be visible in 2 weeks after this medication has been started.
Side effects:
- Frequent urination.
- Oily spotting, fatty stool, poor bowel control are common side effects of Orlitac.
- Because of the unabsorbed fat, there might occur changes in bowel behaviour.
- If you experience rashes, trouble in breathing, or severe dizziness because of these tablets consult your doctor right away.
- If you experience abdominal pain for a longer period of time, stop using the medication and consult your doctor.
Precautions and measures:
- Inform your doctor about the previous history, if any, of gallbladder problems, kidney stones, eating disorders or underactive thyroid.
- Orlistat 60mg, 120mg Capsules must not be consumed during pregnancy.
- This treatment should not be taken if you’ve had an organ transplant.
- Along with this medication, be on a regular schedule of exercise, or walk or any kind of stretching.
- Do not use it if you have a normal BMI or you’re not overweight.
Storage:
- These capsules should be stored between 15°C and 30°C of temperature.
- These capsules should be kept away from moisture, light, and dampness.
- Keep these drugs out of reach of pets and children.
- Do not use expired medication.
Interactions:
- If you’re on medication for cyclosporine, take it 3 hours before Xenical, so that both of these medicines do not get mixed in your bloodstream.
- If you’re on medication of levothyroxine, take it 4 hours before Orlitac.
Some drugs that can react with Orlistat 60mg, 120mg Capsules are Warfarin, Ritonavir, Efavirenz, Emtricitabine, Tenofovir, and Lopinavir.
