Medroxyprogesterone 10mg Tablets are medication which are progestins, which are female hormones. This drug belongs to the class of hormones and antineoplastics. It is also known by the name of Provera internationally and in India, it is called Orgamed. It can be used singly or with other medications.

 

Purpose:

  • Symptoms of heavy menstrual bleeding are treated with these tablets.
  • The female body naturally makes progesterone, and Orgamed is used to replace that hormone when it is not being made sufficiently.
  • It is used to bring back the normal menstrual cycle who haven’t had them in months which is known as amenorrhea.
  • These tablets are also used to reduce the risk of cancer in the uterus.

Dosage:

  • As prescribed by your doctor/physician.
  • The recommended dosage of Medroxyprogesterone 10mg Tablets is once per day, for 10 days consecutively.
  • It should be started on the 16th day of the menstrual cycle.

 

Side effects:

  • Common side effects of being on Provera medication include nausea, breast tenderness, headache, insomnia, dizziness among others.
  • Genitourinary effects can be breakthrough bleeding, increase in the size of uterine leiomyomata.
  • If any serious level of side effects occur such as vaginal bleeding, painful urination, dark patches on the skin, inform your doctor right away.
  • There can be fatal effects too. Blood clots, heart attack, blindness among others. If you sense any symptoms of the same, drop the medication of Medroxyprogesterone 10mg Tablets in between.

 

Precautions and measures:

  • This medication is not meant for pregnancy tests.
  • It has inactive ingredients present such as soy and peanuts, hence people allergic to these should not undergo this medication.
  • Quit smoking and alcohol consumption.
  • These tablets pass into breast milk and should only be consumed during lactation when prescribed by the doctor.
  • Risk of minor birth defect in unborn children whose mothers are on Orgamed medication during the first three months of pregnancy.
  • These tablets are not meant for children and pets.

 

Storage:

  • Medroxyprogesterone 10mg Tablets should be stored between 15°C and 30°C of temperature.
  • These tablets should be kept away from moisture, light, and dampness.
  • Do not use expired medication.

 

Interactions:

  • Some medicines that can contradict with Orgamed are Rifampin, drugs used to treat liver enzymes, and anti-seizure medicines such as phenytoin.
  • It can contradict with some lab tests as well and prove them to be false.

It can reverse the effect if consumed while unusual vaginal bleeding or blood clots.
