Desogestrel 0.15 mg + Ethinyl Estradiol 0.03 mg tablets available by brand names Apri, Mercilon, Marvelon (international) and Novelon (national) is a contraceptive pill.
Apri tablets are used as a contraceptive to prevent pregnancy. The medicine consists of two hormones namely estrogen and progestin. Mercilon tablets inhibit ovulation. It also works by making vaginal fluid thicker so that sperm do not reach an egg. It changes the uterus lining to avoid the attachment of fertilized egg.
In case sperm reach the egg, the fertilized egg do not get appropriate space in the uterus to get attached because of which it passes out from the body and avoids pregnancy. Marvelon tablets also helps in making your periods regular, decrease loss of blood and soothes cramps. It also reduces the risk of cyst in ovary.
Desogestrel 0.15 mg + Ethinyl Estradiol 0.03 mg tablets should be taken as described on the blister. Starting from the day 1 of your menstrual cycle take one white (active) tablet every day on the same time for continuous 21 days following the arrow. These tablets should be followed by one green (inactive) tablet for other seven days. When the blister is finished start a new one in the same manner.
