Norfloxacin 200mg, 400mg, 800mg Tablets are used to fight bacterial infections. They belong to the class of Antibiotic medicines. Noroxin is the international brand name of this drug. And in India, it is known by the name of Norflox.

Purpose:

  • Norfloxacin 200mg, 400mg, 800mg Tablets are used for complicated and uncomplicated, upper and lower acute urinary tract infections including cystopyelitis, cystitis, pyelonephritis, pyelitis, epididymitis, chronic prostatitis, and those urinary infections associated with neurogenic bladder, urologic surgery, or nephrolithiasis caused by bacteria susceptible to this medicine.
  • It treats acute bacterial gastroenteritis caused by susceptible organisms.
  • Gonococcal urethritis pharyngitis, proctitis, or cervicitis caused by both non-penicillin and penicillinase-producing Neisseria gonorrhoeae is also treated by Noroxin.

Dosage:

The recommended dosage of Norflox for effective results is:

  • For urinary tract infections: 400 mg twice daily, for 7-10 days.
  • For uncomplicated acute cystitis: 400 mg twice daily, for 3-7 days.
  • For chronic prostatitis: 400 mg twice daily, for 4 weeks.
  • For acute bacterial gastroenteritis: 400 mg twice daily, for 5 days.
  • For acute gonococcal urethritis, pharyngitis, cervicitis, or proctitis: 800 mg single dose.

 

Side effects:

  • Common side effects of these tablets are headache, lightheadedness, nausea, dizziness, diarrhea, or trouble sleeping.
  • Severe side effects are unusual bleeding, drastic change in the amount of urine, yellowing of skin or eyes, unstoppable vomiting, break in the aorta, or irregular heartbeat.
  • If any of the above-mentioned effects persist for long, consult your doctor right away.
  • A rare condition of Clostridium difficile associated diarrhea might develop due to the consumption of Norflox tablets.

 

Precautions and measures:

  • If you have had a medical history of kidney disease, liver problems, mood disorders, aneurysm, hardening of arteries, Marfan syndrome, Ehlers-Danlos syndrome, seizure disorder, or myasthenia gravis, inform your doctor before starting with Norfloxacin 200mg, 400mg, 800mg Tablets.
  • Keep a close check on your blood sugar levels.
  • Limit your intake of alcohol and marijuana as it can lead to extreme dizziness.
  • Limit your time under the sun. Cover yourself properly before going out and use sunscreen.
  • Elderly people might be at a risk of developing tendon problems if they’re also taking corticosteroids along with Norflox.
  • Pregnant and lactating women should consume this drug under the strict guidance of their doctor.
  • These tablets are meant to be taken on an empty stomach.
  • Include plenty of fluids in your diet.

Interactions:

Strontium is one product that might react with Norfloxacin 200mg, 400mg, 800mg Tablets and produce negative results.
