Ketoconazole 200mg Tablets are antifungals used to treat bodily fungal infections. They belong to the class of azole antifungals. These tablets are available worldwide. They are known by the names Nizoral and Extina abroad and in India, you can find them by the name of Nizral.

 

Purpose:

• They are put to use only when other antifungal therapies are ineffective or intolerable to the patient.
• The growth of the fungus is stopped by the use of it.
• The following are the conditions where Ketoconazole 200mg Tablets are effective: paracoccidioidomycosis, blastomycosis, histoplasmosis, coccidioidomycosis, and chromomycosis.

Dosage:

• As directed by your doctor/physician.
• For an adult, a daily dosage of Nizoral can be once per day.
• The effective duration of this medication is indicated for 6 months.
• As per individuality, your dose will be prescribed based on your response to treatment and current medical condition.

 

Side effects:

• Common side effects of Ketoconazole 200mg Tablets: nausea, abdominal pain, dry mouth, vomiting, tongue discolouration among others.
• Because Nizral is a high dose, there can be obstacles in the adrenal gland and sperm production, decreasing testosterone levels in men.
• Nervous system side effects: somnolence, dizziness, and headache.
• Chances of erectile dysfunction are there if the daily dosage consumed is more than prescribed or 200mg.
• Extina can also lead to QT prolongation in which the rhythm of the heart is affected.
• Urticaria can be a serious allergy and should be reported to the doctor right away if sensed.

Precautions and measures:

• Limit your consumption of alcohol.
• It can be harmful to the fetus if taken during the first 3 months of pregnancy.
• This medication has been proved to pass into the breast milk and should be consumed during lactation only under the guidance of a doctor.
• It should not be used for treating prostate cancer, as its effectiveness has not been established by the FDA for this infection.
• Nizral medication penetrates the cerebrospinal and hence should not be used for fungal meningitis.

 

Storage:

• Ketoconazole 200mg Tablets should be stored between 15°C and 30°C of temperature.
• Nizral tablets should be kept away from moisture, light, and dampness.
• Keep these drugs out of reach of pets and children.
• Do not use expired medication.

 

Interactions:

• People already on medication of hypersensitivity should avoid these tablets.
• These tablets should not be taken along with medicines of liver disease such as acetaminophen.

These tablets can slow down the removal of other medicines such as ergot drugs, drugs used to treat seizures, or some statin drugs among others, hence should never be consumed at the same time.
