Details
Nitroglycerin 50mg injection is an anti-anginal drug. It belongs to the category of Nitrates. This drug is available worldwide. Internationally it is known as DBL Glyceryl Trinitrate. In India, it is marketed under the brand of Nitroplus.
Purpose:
- This medication is used to treat symptoms of chest pain (angina).
- People suffering from coronary artery disease are prescribed DBL Glyceryl Trinitrate injection.
- Chest pain occurs when the heart muscle is not being supplied with enough blood. Therefore, Nitroplus widens and relaxes blood vessels so that there is an easy flow of blood towards the heart.
Dosage:
- It should only be injected into the skin.
- Nitroplus injection can be injected 3-4 times a week.
- Use of this medication is recommended regularly for effective results.
- Too Much of prolonged use might not give a positive result and hence demand a change in dosage.
- It should be injected at a position of rest.
- Consume this injection 5-10 minutes prior to engaging in activities that require hyper actions.
Side effects:
- Common side effects of consuming Nitroglycerin 50mg injection are exfoliative dermatitis, hot flushes, drug rash, nausea, and headache.
- Serious and rare side effects can be vertigo, palpitations, diaphoresis, and syncope.
- If any of the conditions persist for long or worsens, drop your medication and consult your doctor right away.
Precautions and measures:
- Angina might be aggravated by hypertrophic cardiomyopathy.
- If you’ve had any recent head injury, heart attack, dehydration, frequent stomach cramps, then inform your doctor about the same before undergoing this medication.
- Nitroplus causes dizziness, and hence any activity which requires alertness and attention should not be done immediately after it.
- Limit the intake of alcohol. Especially drugs like cannabis.
- If you’re allergic to any salt or inactive ingredient of Nitroglycerin 50mg injection, discuss the risks and benefits with your doctor first.
Interactions:
- Drugs such as Tadalafil, Ergotamine, Sildenafil, Riociguat among others might react with this injection and produce a reverse effect.
- There have been reports that indicated this medication affecting laboratory tests such as blood cholesterol levels and hence resulting in fake or inappropriate reports.
- Patients on already a medication of soluble guanylate cyclase stimulators have experienced contradistinctions in medicine.
- Drugs like ergotamine should be strictly avoided as it can precipitate angina pain.
Storage:
- Nitroglycerin 50mg injection should be stored at room temperature of 25°C.
- Keep this medication away from moisture, light, and dampness.
- This injection should be kept out of reach of pets and children.
Do not use expired medication.
