Pegfilgrastim 6mg Injection is an Anti Cancer drug. It is a man-made protein that encourages the growth of White Blood Cells (WBCs), which boost immunity by decreasing the chances of infection. It is also available by the name of Neulasta and Neulastim in India and abroad.

Purpose:

  • Pegfilgrastim 6mg Injection treats the condition of Neutropenia, where the body experiences a lack of white blood cells caused by chemotherapy.
  • Patients receiving myelosuppressive anti-cancer drugs with non-myeloid malignancies are treated with this drug.

 

Mechanism:

  • Neulastim is a colony-stimulating component that plays an action on hematopoietic cells.
  • It stimulates proliferation, commitment, differentiation, and end cell functional activation by binding to specific cell surface receptors.

 

Dosage:

  • As directed by your physician/doctor.
  • The recommended dosage for effective results is 6mg of Neulasta once per chemotherapy.
  • For pediatric use, children weighing up to 20 kg should be injected with a 1.5 mg dose, between 21-30 kg should be injected with 2.5 mg, and between 31-44 kg should be injected with 4 mg, once per chemotherapy.
  • Dose for patients with hematopoietic subsyndrome should be treated with 2 doses, of 6 mg each, one week apart.
  • Neulastim should be administered subcutaneously.

 

Side effects:

  • Leukocytosis
  • Capillary Leak Syndrome
  • Splenic rupture
  • Serious allergic reactions like urticaria
  • Allergies to acrylics
  • Acute respiratory distress syndrome
  • Glomerulonephritis
  • Aortitis
  • Potential for tumour growth stimulatory effects on malignant cells
  • Alveolar hemorrhage
  • If you experience any pain in the bones or aching, a non-aspirin pain reliever can be taken.
  • Other serious side effects are shortness of breath, dark urine, red or purple spots on the skin, damage to the spleen among others.
  • If any of the above-mentioned effects are experienced by you by the use of Pegfilgrastim 6mg Injection, visit your doctor right away, before the situation worsens.

 

Precautions and measures:

  • If you’ve ever had a medical history of spleen problems or sickle cell disease, inform your doctor before starting with this medication.
  • It has been established that Neulastim passes into breast milk. Discuss the risks and benefits with your doctor.
  • Avoid airport X-ray scans
  • Do not use creams, oil, or body lotion at the sight of injection.
  • This injection should only be exposed to a temperature between 5°C – 40°C.
  • Overdose of this drug can result in bone pain and leukocytosis.
  • Do not use a filgrastim product while being treated with Pegfilgrastim 6mg Injection.
