Polymyxin B Sulphate 5000 units, Bacitracin Zinc 400 units, Neomycin Sulphate 3400 units per 1 gm Powder is a topical antibiotic available worldwide by the name of Neosporin. It is used in the treatment of minor and small wounds such as burns, cuts, and scrapes.
Purpose:
- Neosporin is present with antibiotics which helps in slowing down the growth of bacteria on the wounded area.
- It can also be used in the treatment of mild skin conditions.
- Polymyxin B Sulphate 5000 units, Bacitracin Zinc 400 units, Neomycin Sulphate 3400 units per 1 gm Powder is a sterile antimicrobial made for ophthalmic use.
- Superficial infections of the external eye area can also be treated with this medication.
Dosage:
- It should be applied with an applicator.
- A very small amount of it should be taken at once.
- Neosporin can be used every 3-4 hours for about a week or 10 days.
- A very thin layer of it should be applied.
- It should be used at the same time every day for the most effective results.
Side effects:
- Most common: swelling, itching, and conjunctival erythema.
- Serious side-effects can include hypersensitivity reactions and anaphylaxis.
- Other side effects include burning of skin.
- There can be chances of fungal infection or any other bacterial skin condition.
Precautions and measures:
- If you’ve ever had a history of chickenpox, eczema, shingles, or cold sores, inform your doctor before getting on medication for Polymyxin B Sulphate 5000 units, Bacitracin Zinc 400 units, Neomycin Sulphate 3400 units per 1 gm Powder.
- It has not been established if this drug passes into breast milk, therefore should be used only under the prescription of a doctor.
- It should never be applied directly into the anterior chamber of the eye.
- Prolonged use of this medication can develop overgrowth of non-susceptible organisms.
- If any of the conditions persist for long or worsens, drop the medication and consult your doctor right away.
Interactions:
- People who are on medication of hypersensitivity should avoid taking Neosporin.
- If you’ve been using any herbal products, antiseptics, or corticosteroids, they should be continued to use with Polymyxin B Sulphate 5000 units, Bacitracin Zinc 400 units, Neomycin Sulphate 3400 units per 1 gm Powder only if encouraged by the doctor.
Storage:
- This powder should be stored between 15°C and 30°C of temperature.
- This drug should be kept away from moisture, light, and dampness.
- Keep it away from pets and children.
Do not use expired medication.
