Pancuronium Bromide 4mg Injection is used as a muscle relaxant during surgery and tracheal insertion. It does not produce any analgesic effect. It is also known by the name Pavulon internationally. Its Indian brand name is Neocuron.

How does it work?

Pancuronium Bromide 4mg Injection is a neuromuscular blocking agent. So when the drug is administered into the body it acts by inhibiting the acetylcholine (ACH) receptor at the junctions of the brain by showing the drug’s activity and relaxing the skeletal muscle. It has slight anticholinergic activity.

 

Dosage:

  • The dose of the drug Pancuronium Bromide 4mg Injection depends upon many factors such as patient’s health condition, age, body mass index etc.,
  • The minimum dose of the drug given at the start is 0.04mg- 0.1mg/kg based on his body weight.
  • Neocuron is given through an intravenous route of administration and should be given by experienced physicians who have detailed knowledge about its activities and hazards.
  • The patients should be monitored thoroughly by the doctor.

 

Side effects:

  • The most common side effects of the drug Pavulon include allergic reactions, excessive salivation, dizziness, flushing, the fluttering of B.P, uncontrolled sweating etc.,
  • Itching at the site of administration, redness on the face, swelling may also develop which are also minor side effects and can disappear after some time.
  • Paralysis may occur in rare conditions which are the adverse effects of this drug.
  • Bronchitis, asthma attacks are also the adverse reactions of this drug because of the prolonged usage.
  • Apnoea may be observed due to the intake of Neocuron drugs. It might be temporary.
  • Muscle weakness may also be developed.

 

Contraindications:

  • Have a word with your doctor if you have any kind of allergic reactions with Pancuronium Bromide 4mg Injection.
  • In case of any hypersensitivity reactions, you should avoid using these injections as they might show severe adverse effects.
  • It is strictly contraindicated to neonates because it consists of benzyl alcohol.
  • It should be avoided in pregnancy but if needed should be used under the doctor’s observation.
  • It is contraindicated you use in patients who have severe renal impairments and liver disorders as it may cause toxicity in the body.
  • It is not known if the drug is excreted in milk or not. So, supervision is needed while administering this drug to a lactating mother.

Neocuron drugs are not used if the patient is diagnosed with any pulmonary or cardiovascular disorder and if there is a necessity they should be used with caution.
