Naproxen 250mg, 500mg, 750mg Tablets are popularly used in the treatment of arthritis. It is known by several names such as Anaprox, Naprosyn and Proxen internationally.
Uses:
- Naproxen 250mg, 500mg, 750mg Tablets is also used to treat inflammation in the muscles and joints.
- Naprosyn is also used to treat gout inflammation (acute gout pain).
- It is also used in the treatment of pain caused by menstruation i.e., (primary dysmenorrhoea).
How does it work?
Naproxen 250mg, 500mg, 750mg Tablets belong to NSAIDs (non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs) which are pain-relieving drugs. The study of NSAIDS are not fully understood, but, when the drug is administered into the body it acts by working on decreasing the prostaglandin levels (a hormone) to reduce the pain.
Dosage:
- The dose of Proxen depends upon the condition of the patient, age, etc.,
- It is given through an oral route of administration.
- The minimum dose of Anaprox is 250 to 1000 mg daily, as prescribed by the doctor. The maximum dosage of this medication is 1500 mg per day, it should not be exceeded furthermore.
- Children below 18 years should be given the drug in the suspension form daily and should be under observation of the doctor.
Side effects:
- The common side effects of Naprosyn tablets include drowsiness, stomach pain, diarrhoea, heartburn, nausea and vomiting.
- Swelling, slurred speech can also be observed.
- Some adverse effects may be seen such as stomach ulcers, blood vomiting, decreased RBC count etc if the drug is used for a long time.
- Allergic reactions such as rashes, itching can be seen due to the use of this drug.
- In some of the rare cases research suggests that it may cause kidney failure, coma in the patients.
Contraindications:
- You should let your doctor know if you have any allergic reactions to the Naprosyn drug so that he can alter the dose.
- As the drug causes drowsiness you need to avoid driving after the administration of the drug.
- Let your doctor know about all your medical history including the medications you take so that he can monitor you to avoid the adverse symptoms which may occur.
- You need to let your doctor know if you have any bleeding problems, ulcers, or low RBC count, cardiac problems.
- It should be avoided if you have any renal impairments or liver cirrhosis as they may cause toxicity.
- Alcohol should be completely avoided during the intake of this drug.
- Studies suggest that small amounts of drugs are excreted in the milk. That is why it is prohibited to be used by lactating mothers.
- Naproxen 250mg, 500mg, 750mg Tablets are contraindicated in pregnancy as they may cause harmful side effects to the foetus.
- Do not stop the intake of drugs suddenly as it may cause severe inflammation in the infected area.
Elder people should be monitored thoroughly by their physician when these drugs are used. Because their body processes the drug slowly, high consumption may be dangerous.
