Drug Name: Moxifloxacin 400mg Tablets
Details
Moxifloxacin 400mg Tablets are Antibacterial agents. They are synthetic fluoroquinolone tablets. Avelox is the international brand name of this drug. In India, it is available by a couple of names such as Moxicip or M-Cin.
Purpose:
Avelox tablets are indicated for the following conditions:
- Acute sinusitis
- Acute exacerbations of chronic bronchitis
- Community-acquired pneumonia
- Complicated skin and skin structure infections
- Diabetic foot infections
- Complicated intra-abdominal infections including polymicrobial infections, for example, abscesses
- Uncomplicated pelvic inflammatory disease
Mechanism:
Moxifloxacin 400mg Tablets have an in vitro activity against a wide range of Gram-positive and Gram-negative organisms, anaerobes, acid-fast bacteria, and atypicals. M-Cin exhibits concentration-dependent bactericidal killing.
Dose:
- Strictly as prescribed by your doctor.
The recommended dosage of Moxicip for effective results is:
- For Bronchitis: one tablet daily, for 5 days.
- For Pneumonia: one tablet daily, for 10 days.
- For Sinusitis: one tablet daily, for 7 days.
- For inflammatory disease: one tablet daily, for 14 days.
- For skin structure infections: one tablet daily, for 7-21 days, as per the condition.
- For intra-abdominal infections: one tablet daily, for 5-14 days, as per the condition.
Side effects:
- Common side effects of Moxifloxacin 400mg Tablets are nausea, vomiting, lightheadedness, diarrhea, sleepiness, and dizziness.
- Serious side effects of M-Cin tablets are unusual bleeding, persistent fever, change in the amount of urine, unusual tiredness, abdominal pain, yellowing of skin or eyes, and dark urine.
- Consult your doctor right away if you experience irregular heartbeat, signs of a tear in the aorta, severe pain in the chest, or shirts of breath.
- Clostridium difficile-associated diarrhea
- Peripheral neuropathy
- Exacerbation of myasthenia gravis
- Hypersensitivity reactions
- Tendinitis and tendon rupture
- Blood glucose disturbances
Precautions and measures:
- If you’re allergic to Ciprofloxacin, or Levofloxacin, Moxifloxacin 400mg Tablets are not meant for your consumption.
- If you have had a medical history of tendonitis, bursitis, myasthenia gravis, liver disease, aneurysm, Marfan syndrome, hardening of arteries, Ehlers Danlos syndrome, seizures, or cerebral atherosclerosis, inform your doctor before starting with M-Cin tablets.
- Check your blood sugar levels regularly.
- Limit your intake of alcohol and marijuana as it can lead to extreme dizziness and sleepiness.
- Limit your time under the sun. Use sunscreen while going out, and make sure you’re fully clothed.
- Some live bacterial vaccines, such as typhoid vaccines might not work well during the tenure of Moxicip tablets.
- Pregnant and lactating women should only consume this drug under the strict guidance of their doctor.
Interactions:
Avoid consuming blood thinners, such as Warfarin, Acenocoumarol along with Moxicip drug.
