Minoxidil 5% + Tretinoin0.010% + Azelaic Acid 1.5% Solution used in the treatment of hair loss ( alopecia) and helps in stimulating hair growth. It is sold under the name Rogaine internationally. In India, it is known as Minokem – N.

How does it work?

Minoxidil 5% + Tretinoin0.010% + Azelaic Acid 1.5% Solution contains three combinational drugs i.e., Minoxidil, Tretinoin and Azelaic acid which shows different actions. When the drug is administered to the scalp, Minoxidil works by dilating the blood vessels and providing proper blood flow to the hair follicle for regrowth. Azelaic acid helps in reducing hair loss by decreasing the levels of dihydrotestosterone hormone. Tretinoin, a type of vitamin A promotes the growth of hair follicle in the scalp. It is readily applicable and easily removed from the scalp.

 

Dosage:

  • The dose of Rogaine depends upon the patient’s condition and as prescribed by the physician.
  • Apply 5% of the drug solution up to 1 ml to the affected area.
  • You should not touch your scalp and avoid any type of contact with it after the application of the Minokem – N
  • Minoxidil 5% + Tretinoin0.010% + Azelaic Acid 1.5% Solution may take upto 4 to 5 months to show its results.

 

Side effects:

  • The common symptoms of the Minokem – N drug include irritation at the site of application,
  • It may also cause dizziness that can be cured after some time.
  • You may even observe eczema, headache, anxiety issues in rare conditions.
  • Hypertrichosis ( a condition where excessive hair growth is seen) is an adverse condition and you need to consult your doctor immediately.

 

Contraindications:

  • Have a detailed discussion with your physician if you have any kind of allergy with the Minoxidil 5% + Tretinoin0.010% + Azelaic Acid 1.5% Solution or its components so that he can alter the medication.
  • This solution should be avoided by patients who have any hypersensitivity reactions.
  • Patients who have any heart disease should use this drug with caution.
  • It should not be used by patients who have any fungal infections, redness at the site of application.
  • The patient may observe a change in hair colour due to the long term use of this solution.
  • Consult your doctor if you are pregnant as this drug may or may not cause harm to the foetus.

Minokem – N should not be used by lactating mothers as small amounts are excreted in the milk.
