Desmopressin 0.1mg Tablets are antidiuretics that are used to control the amount of urine produced by our kidneys. It helps in preventing dehydration in the body. These tablets are easily available in pharmacies by the name of Minirin throughout the world.

Purpose:

  • Minirin helps in controlling too much urination and increased thirst.
  • Vasopressin is a natural substance in the human body that controls the amount of urine. The body of people who suffer from water diabetes does not make enough vasopressin. And therefore Desmopressin 0.1mg Tablets are a man-made replacement for the same.
  • This also helps in controlling nighttime bedwetting faced by some children.
  • It reduces the frequency of a child’s urination and hence decreases the chances of bedwetting by them.

 

Dosage:

  • Dosage must be prescribed carefully according to individual requirements.
  • Patients under the age of 12 should start with a dose of Desmopressin 0.1mg Tablets to 1mg per day.
  • The maximum recommended dosage is 50mg.
  • Patients over the age of 12 can consume up to 100mg in one day.

 

Side effects:

  • Common side effects: face flushing headache nausea and upset stomach.
  • Miscellaneous: breast tenderness in women.
  • Dermatologic side effects of Desmopressin 0.1mg Tablets include too much hair growth.
  • Salt and water retention in the body might occur.
  • If any of the effects last for long, drop the medication in between and consult your doctor right away.

 

Precautions and measures:

  • Bodyweight and electrolyte balance should be monitored regularly.
  • There are reports of these Minirin tablets passing into breast milk and hence should only be taken under the indication of a doctor.

  • These tablets should not be crushed and consumed and only swallowed with water.
  • Older patients consuming this medication might experience lag in their kidney functioning.

Interactions:

  • Alcohol should be consumed on a very limited basis when on this medication.
  • Water pills such as furosemide might react with Minirin and reverse the effect of it.
  • If consumed along with Guanethidine, it can result in profound orthostatic effects in patients.

 

Storage:

  • These should be stored at room temperature of 25°C.
  • Keep the medication away from moisture, light, and dampness.
  • These tablets should be kept out of reach of pets and children.
