Desmopressin 0.1mg Nasal Spray is an Antidiuretic agent. It affects renal water conservation. This nasal spray is known by the name of Minirin worldwide in the medical market. This is used to decrease plasma osmolality and increase urine osmolality.
Purpose:
Minirin spray is indicated for:
- Management of the temporary polyuria
- Central cranial diabetes insipidus treatment
- Curing polydipsia following head trauma
- Surgery in the pituitary region treatment
- Controlling too much urination and increased thirst.
Mechanism:
Desmopressin 0.1mg Nasal Spray contains as active substance desmopressin acetate, a synthetic analog of the natural hormone arginine vasopressin, which is mainly extracted in the urine.
Dosage:
- Strictly as prescribed by your doctor.
- Recommended dosage of Desmopressin 0.1mg Nasal Spray for effective results in adults: 0.1 – 0.4 mL every day, either as a single or double dose.
- For children between the age of 3 months – 12 years: 0.05 – 0.3 mL daily, either as a single or double dose.
- A rhinal tube delivery system should be used if a dose other than 0.1 mL o multiples of 0.1 mL are required.
Side effects:
- Dermatologic side effects of Minirin include too much hair growth.
- Miscellaneous: breast tenderness in women.
- Salt and water retention in the body might occur.
- Common side effects: face flushing headache nausea and upset stomach.
- If any of the effects last for long, drop the medication in between and consult your doctor right away.
Precautions and measures:
- If you’ve lost a lot of water from your body earlier, your condition will be made suitable before getting on this treatment.
- Do not restrict your water intake, drink enough amount of water to keep yourself hydrated.
- Bodyweight and electrolyte balance should be monitored regularly.
- Older patients consuming this medication might experience lag in their kidney functioning.
- If you have had a medical history of high blood pressure, cystic fibrosis, high blood pressure, hyponatremia, or clotting problems, inform your doctor before starting with this treatment.
- Scarring, blockage, swelling, or congestion in the nose might affect the working of this nasal spray.
- Pregnant and lactating women should consume this medication only under the guidance of their doctor.
- Desmopressin 0.1mg Nasal Spray should be stored at room temperature of 25°C.
- Keep the medication away from moisture, light, and dampness.
- Do not use expired medication.
Interactions:
Drugs that might interact with Minirin nasal spray are Diuretics, Water pills (Furosemide), and Tolvaptan.
