Natural Micronised Progesterone 100mg, 200mg, 400mg Softgel Capsules is a prescription medicine categorized under progesterone and oestrogen. Internationally it is known by the name of Prometrium. In India, it is available under the brand name Microgest.

Purpose:

  • Natural Micronised Progesterone 100mg, 200mg, 400mg Softgel Capsules are used to treat symptoms of endometrial hyperplasia.
  • The absence of periods (secondary amenorrhea) is also treated with Microgest.
  • This medication is used in combination with hormone replacement therapy along with estrogens to reduce the symptoms of menopause.

 

Mechanism:

Progesterone is a natural micronized female hormone that helps to maintain and establish a pregnancy. The prevention of thickness of uterus lining (endometrium) is encouraged by estrogen.

 

Dosage:

  • For Endometrial Hyperplasia: 200 mg, once a day, for 12 days.
  • For Secondary Amenorrhea: 400 mg of Prometrium, once a day at bedtime, for 10 days.

  • Excessive thirst
  • Melasma
  • Influenza
  • Bloating
  • Stomach cramps
  • Vaginal ulceration

  • Other serious side effects of Natural Micronised Progesterone 100mg, 200mg, 400mg Softgel Capsules are strokes, diabetes, obesity, migraine headaches, lupus, high levels of cholesterol, dark patches on the skin, dark urine, loss of vision, blood in cough, problems from a blood clot, swelling in the calf.
  • If you spot any vaginal bleeding, dark urine, pulmonary embolism, deep vein thrombosis, or blood in cough during the tenure of Microgest at any point, consult your doctor right away.

 

Precautions and measures:

  • If you have ever had vaginal bleeding other than menstruation, clotting, liver or kidney disease, stroke, breast or ovarian cancer, inform your doctor before getting on this medication.
  • Any case of uterus problems such as endometriosis or fibroids should be reported to the doctor as well.
  • Consumption of tobacco or cigarettes is strictly prohibited during the period.
  • Natural Micronised Progesterone 100mg, 200mg, 400mg Softgel Capsules can lead to melasma and can worsen if you face the sun. Limit your time under the sun, and be fully clothed when outdoors.
  • Microgest should not be used to cure Dementia.
  • If you are going to have major surgery, this medication should be discontinued at least 4 weeks before that.
  • Store it a room temperature between 10°to 30°
  • It is not meant for children.
  • Swallow it along with food.

 

Interactions:

  • This medication can interfere with certain laboratory tests and cause false results.

Some products that can react with these tablets and produce negative effects are Rifampin, Itraconazole, St. John’s wort, Carbamazepine, Phenytoin, and Phenobarbital.
