Hydroquinone 4% + Tretinoin 0.025% + Mometasone Furoate 0.1% Cream is used in the treatment of hyperpigmentation ( dark pigmented patches on the skin). It is sold with the brand name Tri-Luma all over the world. It is also known by the name of Melacare Forte in India.

Uses:

  • It is used as a skin whitening agent.
  • It is majorly used in the treatment of melasma.
  • Tri-Luma is also used to treat skin rashes, blemishes.
  • It is used for the treatment of mild to severe melasma.

 

How does it work?

Melacare Forte consists of three combinations of drugs i.e., Hydroquinone, Tretinoin, Mometasone. When the cream is applied to the affected area it acts by reducing the pigmentation that is Hydroquinone acts by inhibiting the melanin production. Tretinoin is a type of vitamin A which brightens the skin and helps in the reformation of the skin. Mometasone inhibits the production of certain hormones which cause inflammation or itching.

 

Dosage:

  • The Hydroquinone 4% + Tretinoin 0.025% + Mometasone Furoate 0.1% Cream should be used as directed by the physician.
  • Have a detailed view of the instructions given on the leaflet of the drug before application.
  • The drug is applied once daily on the affected area of the skin and should be rubbed until the cream is fully absorbed in the skin.
  • The improvement may be seen within 2 weeks but the total effective results will be seen after 2 to 3 months
  • You should wash your hands before and after application of the Melacare Forte
  • This cream is used only for external application.
  • The cream should not be applied to the damaged skin.

 

Side Effects:

  • The common symptoms of this Hydroquinone 4% + Tretinoin 0.025% + Mometasone Furoate 0.1% Cream include itching at the site of application, redness and irritation.
  • Acne, blisters, swelling or cracked skin may be seen if used for a long time and they should immediately consult the physician.

 

Contraindications:

  • Let your doctor know if you have any allergy or sensitivity reactions with Hydroquinone 4% + Tretinoin 0.025% + Mometasone Furoate 0.1% Cream or its components.
  • The studies suggest that there are no harmful effects observed while driving when this cream is applied.
  • Consult your doctor if you are pregnant before taking this cream.
  • It is strictly avoided in the lactating mothers as studies suggest it shows harmful effects to the infants.

Drinking alcohol doesn’t cause any side effects while using the Melacare Forte cream.
