Details
Cefepime 1g, 2g Injection is a Cephalosporin Antibiotic. A wide variety of bacterial infections are treated with an injection. It is semi-synthetic in nature. The brand name under which it is available worldwide is Maxipime. This injection is highly soluble in water and ranges from white to pale yellow color.
Purpose:
- Maxipime is used to treat moderate to severe pneumonia.
- It is indicated for the treatment of complicated urinary tract infections such as pyelonephritis.
- It suppresses the growth of various bacteria such as Escherichia coli, Proteus mirabilis, and Klebsiella pneumoniae.
- Cefepime 1g, 2g Injection treats skin structure infections that are caused by Staphylococcus aureus.
- Intra-abdominal infections are also cured with this medication.
Mechanism:
Maxipime inhibits bacterial cell wall synthesis. This injection obstructs the in vitro activity of bacteria inside the body.
Dosage:
- As per the doctor’s prescription.
- For severe pneumonia: 1-2 g every 8-12 hours for 10 days.
- For febrile neutropenic patients: 2g every 8 hours for 7 days.
- For skin structure infections: 2g every 12 hours for 10 days.
- For urinary tract infection: 2g every 12 hours, for 10 days.
- For abdominal infections: 2g every 8-12 hours, for 7-10 days.
- The Cefepime 1g, 2g Injection is meant to be given intravenously.
Side effects:
- Common side effects of this medication are confusion, nausea, diarrhea, vomiting, headache, back pain, fever among others.
- Serious side effects are neutropenia, anaphylaxis, thrombocytopenia, seizures, aphasia, stupor, hallucinations, transient leukopenia, agranulocytosis, renal dysfunction, pancytopenia, cholestasis, hemorrhage among others.
- If any of the above-stated effects are experienced, consult your doctor right away, before the situation worsens.
Precautions and measures:
- If you have had a medical history of any kidney disease, stomach or intestinal infections such as colitis, inform your doctor before getting on the medication of Cefepime 1g, 2g Injection.
- Some live bacterial vaccines such as typhoid vaccines might not work well with this medication.
- Do not get any vaccinations or immunizations during the tenure of this drug.
- If you’re pregame before starting with this treatment, inform your doctor.
- Consumption of this injection can lead to a fall in prothrombin activity.
- Lactating mothers are advised not to consume this drug.
- Children below the age of 2 years should not be injected with this medication.
- Keep it out of reach of kids and pets.
- Do not let the nib of injection come in contact with the blood vessel at the time of use.
Interactions:
It has been established that Maxipime interferes with certain lab tests such as urine glucose tests and leads to false reports.
