Leuprolide 3.75mg, 11.25mg Suspension is an Anticancer agent. It is a synthetic nonapeptide analog of GnRH agonist. In India, it is available under the Lupride Depot brand. Internationally it is known by the name of Lupron Depot GYN.

Purpose:

Certain conditions that are treated by Leuprolide 3.75mg, 11.25mg Suspension are:

  • To treat symptoms of prostate cancer, and not cancer itself.
  • To treat symptoms of endometriosis in women, where there is an overgrowth of uterine lining outside the uterus.
  • Curing precocious puberty in both females and males at least 2 years old.

 

Mechanism:

Initial stimulation of Lupron Depot GYN results in stimulation followed by a prolonged suppression of pituitary gonadotropins. Tissues and functions become quiescent, which depend on gonadal steroids for their maintenance.

 

Dosage:

  • Initial treatment for 6 months: 11.25 mg every 3 months for 1-2 doses, with or without concurrent oral norethindrone acetate, 5 mg daily add/back therapy.
  • The fractional dose of 11.25 mg given every 3 months, is not equivalent to the same dose of 3.75 mg monthly.

 

Side effects:

  • Common side effects of Lupride Depot are night sweats, headache, hot flushing, upset stomach, swelling of feet, trouble in sleeping, reduced sexual interest, vaginal dryness, dizziness, breast changes, acne, and joint pain.
  • Adverse side effects of Leuprolide 3.75mg, 11.25mg Suspension are asthenia, vaginitis, joint disorder, emotional lability, memory disorder, edema, renal calculus, urinary tract infection, decreased white blood count, hypotension, hypertension among others.
  • If any of the above-mentioned effects show up, consult your doctor right away, before the condition worsens.

 

Precautions and measures:

  • Your symptoms of consuming Lupride Depot might worsen during the first 2 months but will eventually get better. If the condition remains the same over 2 months, consult your doctor.
  • Pregnant women are not advised to consume Leuprolide 3.75mg, 11.25mg Suspension.
  • If you have had a medical history of depression, seizures, epilepsy, blood vessel disorder, brain tumor, spinal cord injury, congestive heart failure, or long QT syndrome, inform your doctor, before getting on this medication.
  • This drug usually causes women to stop having menstrual periods or ovulating.
  • There is an increased risk of bone loss due to consumption of Lupride Depot.
  • This suspension can interfere with certain lab tests, and produce false results. Discuss the reports with your doctor.
  • The needle and syringe are meant for single use only.
  • Keep it away from kids and pets.
