Ranibizumab 10mg Injection is a Retinopathy that treats age-related macular degeneration. It is a monoclonal antibody. This injection is also available by the name of Lucentis all over the world. This syringe is a colourless to pale yellow, sterile solution in a glass vial.

Purpose:

  • It slows down the growth of abnormal new blood vessels in the eye.
  • Decreases the leakage from these blood vessels used to treat the wet of macular degeneration.
  • People suffering from Macular Edema following Retinal Vein Occlusion (RVO) are also injected with Lucentis.
  • Other purposes for which this injection is used are Myopic Choroidal Neovascularization (mCNV), Diabetic Macular Edema (DME), Diabetic Retinopathy, and Proliferative Diabetic Retinopathy (PDR).

Mechanism:

Ranibizumab 10mg Injection binds and inhibits the human vascular endothelial growth factor A which is biologically active in humans. It produces E. coli in a nutrient medium.

 

Dosage:

  • The recommended dosage for effective results: 0.05mL of 10mg solution should be given by intravitreal injection once in 28 days.
  • There can be 3 monthly doses and then lessen gradually as per the improvement in the condition of the patient.

 

Side effects:

  • Patients with DR and DME at baseline can experience fatal events.
  • Endophthalmitis and retinal detachments
  • Thromboembolic events
  • Increase in intraocular pressure
  • Increased water in eyes
  • A feeling of fainting and spinning
  • Nausea
  • Dizziness and tiredness
  • Sore throat
  • Dry eyes
  • Cough
  • Stubbornness
  • Sleepiness
  • Sleeplessness
  • Vomiting
  • Head and stomach aches
  • Serious side effects of Lucentis are blood vessel problems, symptoms of stroke, heart attack, blood clots, trouble in breathing, swollen hands, feet, and face, and convulsions. If any of these are visible, visit your doctor immediately.

 

Precautions and measures:

  • Limit your consumption of alcohol and marijuana.
  • During pregnancy, Ranibizumab 10mg Injection should be used only if necessarily needed.
  • Do not freeze it.
  • Do not use it if it is an expired medication.
  • Original syringes should be protected from light.
  • The prefilled syringe is meant for use and throw purpose.
  • Do not twist or turn the cap of the syringe, rather snap it off.
  • Do not wipe the needle when not needed.
  • Use proper aseptic injection technique.
  • Ranibizumab 10mg Injection should only be provided as a preservative-free solution.
  • This vaccine is not meant for children.
  • After the injection has been put, clear off all the material and dispose of them responsibly.

 

Interactions:

When Lucentis is used with Verteporfin photodynamic therapy, there have been negative results observed in almost all the patients.
