Lidocaine 7.5mg +  Prilocaine 2.5mg Actuation Spray is used in the treatment of erectile dysfunction in men. It is sold under the brand name Emla internationally. In India, it is known as Lovelong.

Uses:

• This spray is used to treat premature ejaculation in men.
• Lovelong spray is also used as topical local anaesthesia (numbness at a particular region).

 

How does it work?

Emla  Is the combination of two drugs i.e., Lidocaine 7.5mg and Prilocaine 2.5mg. So when the spray is used it works by inhibiting the touch receptor of the particular region where the drug is sprayed and reduces the sensitivity of the glans penis.

 

Dosage:

• The dose of the drug Lidocaine 7.5mg + Prilocaine 2.5mg Actuation Spray depends on the condition of the patient and is used as directed by the doctor
• You must wash your hands before or after the application of the spray.
• Apply the spray at the area i.e., on the glans penis at least three to five times for 15 minutes.
• The drug shows its response after 30 minutes and lasts for 2-3 hours.
• This drug can be easily removed before sexual intercourse.

 

Side effects:

• There are common side effects of the Lovelong spray: redness at the site of application, irritation, itching, swelling, and burning sensation may be observed.
• An Erectile difficulty may be seen during the use of this drug. You should consult your physician immediately if you experience such symptoms.

 

Contraindications:

• Do let your doctor know if you have any allergic reactions with Lidocaine 7.5mg + Prilocaine 2.5mg Actuation Spray or with any other components present in the spray.
• There are no harmful effects observed with the intake of the drug along with alcohol.
• The studies suggest that there are no adverse effects if the patients have any liver or renal impairment.
• There are no effects seen while driving if you take Lovelong spray.
• If by accident, this spray comes in contact with your eyes, nose, mouth or ears, rinse the area with water immediately.

 

Drug interactions:

• Some interactions occur if you use Lidocaine 7.5mg + Prilocaine 2.5mg Actuation Spray along with your other medical drugs. Hence, you should avoid using this spray along with those medications or let your doctor know it so that he can adjust the dose of the medication.

The drug interactions that may occur are Dihydroergotamine, Saquinavir, Atazanavir.
