DiphenoxylateHCl 2.5 mg + Atropine sulphate 0.025 mg tablets with brand name Lomotilis an antidiarrheal.

Uses:

Various uses of Lomotil are:

• For the treatment of diarrhoea.
• For decreasing the frequency of bowel movement.

 

Dosage:

Dosage of DiphenoxylateHCl 2.5 mg + Atropine sulphate 0.025 mg tabletsdepends on the severity of diarrhoea. The general dosage given is as follows:

• Initial dosage- Maximum 20 mg per day (i.e. 2 tablets four times in a day).
• After control dosage- Dosage is reduced depending on weight and condition of the patient.

 

Side effects:

DiphenoxylateHCl 2.5 mg + Atropine sulphate 0.025 mg tablets causes some serious to minor side effects such as:

• Respiratory disorders
• Dehydration
• Opioid toxicity
• Drowsiness
• Dizziness
• Hallucinations
• Headache
• Lethargy
• Allergies such as swelling of gums,edema
• Vomiting
• Nausea
• Pain in stomach
• Convulsions
• Dry skin/ skin rash

 

Precautions and measures:

Although serious side effects caused by Lomotil are not detected in most of the patients still precautionary measures need to be taken such as:

• Inform your doctor if you are allergic to any of the ingredient of the medicine.
• Not recommended for paediatric use.
• Tell your doctor if you suffer from liver disease such as cirrhosis.
• Inform your doctor if you have lost body water due to any reason and suffer mineral imbalance as the drug may worsen the condition.
• Do not drive and operate heavy machined as the medicine makes you dizzy and drowsy.
• Inform your doctor about your pregnancy.
• If you are lactating, tell your doctor as the drug passes to the child through breast milk which may be harmful for the baby.
