Diphenoxylate HCl 2.5 mg +Atropine sulphate 0.025 mg + Furazolidone 50 mg tablets marketed under brand names Colestase (international) and Lomofen (national), is an antidiarrheal drug.

Uses:

Being an antidiarrheal medicine, Colestase work by reducing the movements in intestines. It should be taken as such. Various uses of the drug are:

  • For the treatment of diarrhoea (kills bacteria responsible for causing diarrhoea).
  • For treating pain in stomach, stomach cramps and loose motions.

 

Dosage:

Dosage of Lomofen varies which depends on the weight, age and condition of the patient.

  • Take medicine as directed by your doctor. Do not use on your own.
  • Do not chew or crush the medicine as it may not work efficiently if crushed. Swallow it as whole.
  • In case you missed a dose, do not take it twice.

 

Side effects:

The side effects of Diphenoxylate HCl 2.5 mg + Atropine sulphate 0.025 mg + Furazolidone 50 mg tablets are mild. In case the side effects become severe, see your doctor.

  • Do not drive after taking the medicine as it makes you feel drowsy.
  • Tell your doctor if you suffer from any kind of liver disease.
  • Keep your body hydrated.
  • Inform your doctor if you are suffering from AIDS as the drug may obstruct intestines giving painful constipation.
