Details
Levofloxacin 250mg, 500mg, 750mg Tablets are Antibiotics used to treat bacterial infections. These tablets belong to a class of drugs called Quinolone Antibiotics. Levaquin is the international name of this medication. However, in India, it is known by the name Alevo and Levoquin.
Purpose:
Levaquin tablets are indicated for treating:
- Nosocomial Pneumonia
- Community-Acquired Pneumonia
- Complicated skin and skin structure infections
- Uncomplicated skin and skin structure infections
- Chronic bacterial prostatitis
- Inhalational anthrax
- Plague
- Complicated urinary tract infections
- Acute pyelonephritis
- Acute bacterial exacerbation of chronic bronchitis
- Acute bacterial sinusitis
Dosage:
The recommended Levoquin tablets dosage for effective results are as follows:
- For Nosocomial Pneumonia, and Complicated skin and skin structure infections: 750 mg, once a day for 7-14 days.
- For community-acquired pneumonia: 500 mg, once a day, for 7-14 days.
- For chronic bacterial prostatitis: 500 mg, once daily, for 28 days.
- For other conditions, follow the dosage strictly as prescribed by your doctor.
Side effects:
- Common side effects of Levofloxacin 250mg, 500mg, 750mg Tablets are nausea, dizziness, diarrhoea, headache, trouble sleeping l, or lightheadedness may occur.
- Severe side effects of Levoquin are tendinitis and tendon rupture, peripheral neuropathy, exacerbation of myasthenia gravis, hypersensitivity reactions l, hepatotoxicity, clostridium difficile-associated diarrhoea, blood glucose disturbances, photosensitivity, and development of drug-resistant bacteria.
- If any of the side effects while consuming Alevo tablets persist for long, consult your doctor right away.
Precautions and measures:
- Finish the full course and do not drop it in between, even if you start feeling better.
- If you feel any tingling sensations, tendons, or numbness too often, inform your doctor.
- If you’re allergic to antibiotics such as ofloxacin, ciprofloxacin, or moxifloxacin, Levofloxacin 250mg, 500mg, 750mg Tablets are not meant for you.
- Inform your doctor if you have had a history of high blood pressure, kidney problems, seizure disorder, blockage of the aorta, myasthenia gravis, bursitis, or peripheral neuropathy, before starting with Alevo tablets.
- There can be instances where your heart rhythm (QT prolongation) is affected due to the consumption of this drug.
- Keep a regular check on your blood sugar levels while being on medication of Alevo.
- Eat meals at the scheduled timings, and do not skip them.
- Limit your intake of alcohol and marijuana as it can lead to extreme dizziness and sleepiness.
- Limit your time under the sun when you’re consuming Levoquin. Cover yourself properly while going out and use sunscreen.
Interactions:
Do not take Levofloxacin 250mg, 500mg, 750mg Tablets along with Strontium as it might produce opposite results.
