Details
Ixabepilone 15mg, 45mg Injection is an Anti Cancer drug. It belongs to the class of antineoplastic agents. It is provided in a single-use vial as a lyophilized white powder. Ixempra is the universal name of this drug by which it is known in the medical market.
Purpose:
- It is a chemotherapy drug used to slow down or stop the growth of cancer cells.
- Treatment of patients with locally advanced or metastatic breast cancer resistant to treatment with a taxane and an anthracycline.
- It is used in patients whose tumors are refractory or resistant to taxanes, anthracyclines, and capecitabine.
Mechanism:
Ixabepilone 15mg, 45mg Injection is epothilone B which is a semi-synthetic analog. It binds with tubulin leading to inhibition of microtubule dynamics. It blocks cells in the cell division cycle during the mitotic phase, which eventually leads to the death of the cell.
Dosage:
- As prescribed by your physician/doctor.
- The recommended dosage for Ixempra, for effective results, is 40mg, over 3 hours, every 3 weeks.
- Dosage should be adjusted according to the reaction to the medication, present health state, and other conditions.
Side effects:
- Common side effects of Ixabepilone 15mg, 45mg Injection are vomiting, nausea, diarrhea, stomachache, weakness, redness at the site of injection, tiredness, muscle pain, or drowsiness.
- Temporary hair loss is likely to occur.
- Immunity of the body can be lowered during the medication of Ixempra.
- Serious side effects include painful sores on the lips, swollen hands, feet, neck, or arms, fainting, sudden weight gain, decreased urination, dry mouth, signs of loss of too much body water.
- This injection can also affect peripheral neuropathy that is the working of your nerve.
- There can be the development of an allergic reaction to this injection called hand-foot syndrome. If you experience any signs of the above-stated effects, consult your doctor right away, before the situation worsens.
Precautions and measures:
- Eat several small meals, at equal time gaps, to prevent vomiting.
- Limit the intake of hot food and beverages.
- Use a soft-bristle toothbrush and do not use alcohol-based mouthwash.
- Rinse your mouth with cold water frequently.
- If the fever is greater than 100.5°C, you should visit your doctor.
- During the tenure of this injection, pregnancy should be avoided with reliable birth control alternatives.
- Keep Ixabepilone 15mg, 45mg Injection away from the reach of kids and pets.
- Try prohibiting or at the very least limiting the intake of alcohol.
Interactions:
Ixempra can react with Azole antifungals, macrolide antibiotics, anti-HIV medications, rifamycins, and drugs affecting liver enzymes and produce negative effects in the body or lead to the complete removal of Ixabepilone.
