Purpose

Raltegravir 400mg tablets come under the brand name of Isentress in the market.  Its main purpose to treat HIV (human immunodeficiency virus), which causes the deadly disease of AIDS( Acquired Immunodeficiency Syndrome). The product is well designed to prevent the proliferation of viruses in the body and also clears infection related to it.  However, Isentress is not the cure for AIDS but can decrease the level of HIV in the body of the user considerably.  Further, it helps prevent all HIV-related complications and hence, prolongs the lifespan.

 

How does it work?

Isentress tablets fall under the category of anti-viral drugs which prevents the further multiplication of HIV in the user’s body.  it blocks the multiplication of viral cells by inhibiting their action.

 

Measures and Precautions

  1. Raltegravir 400mg tablets are taken in the prescribed dose given by the doctor. The dose should not be lowered or increased without a doctor’s consultation.
  2. Do not crush or break the tablets for consuming them. do swallow the tablets with water in one go.
  3. The tablets can be taken with or without food. They are not food-dependent.
  4. It is advised to take the raltegravir 400mg tablets in fixed time only.
  5. Breastfeeding women can also take the tablets, as it does not show any abnormalities in the baby after consumption. However, the consumption of tablets in pregnancy can be unsafe.
  6. The use of alcohol should be prohibited as the circumstances can become lethal to the user after it.
  7. Avoid taking in antacids having aluminum and magnesium and calcium within 2 hours of Isentress consumption or before 2 hours, it can cause damage to the body.
  8. Anyone with liver malfunctions should not consume the raltegravir 400mg tablets. This can be harmful to them.
  9. Do not skip doses of these tablets. Complete full course for better results.
  10. If an allergy or side-effects persists for a longer time, then do consult the doctor for the same.
  11. The medication is harmful to kidney malfunction patients also. A mild dose of the medication should be avoided in such a case.
