Isotretinoin 10mg, 20mg Capsules are used to treat severe acne, which hasn’t been cured by other antibiotics and treatments. They are available internationally by the name of Accutane. In India, you can find these capsules marketed under the brand of Irotin or Sotret.

Purpose:

• Sotret is a retinoid which is a soft gelatin tablet meant for oral consumption.
• It is meant for the treatment of severe recalcitrant nodular acne.
• It decreases the production of sebum (facial oil) on the face which eventually reduces acne.

 

Dosage:

• Irotin medication is recommended for 15-20 weeks for effective results.
• If acne still persists, a second course of medication should only be taken after 8 weeks of the previous course.
• Isotretinoin 10mg, 20mg Capsules should be taken twice daily.
• There should be a gap of 7 hours between the 2 doses of Accutane in a day.

Side effects:

• Fatigue, weight loss, edema are some whole-body side effects of consuming Isotretinoin 10mg, 20mg Capsules.
• Tachycardia, strokes, and palpitations are cardiovascular side effects of Sotret tablets.
• Gastrointestinal side effects can be inflammation of gums nausea, hepatitis, and inflammatory bowel disease.
• Other uncategorized side effects are dried mouth, tinnitus, vasculitis, conjunctivitis among others.

 

Precautions and measures:

• Irotin can harm an unborn baby as it is absorbed by the lungs and skin and therefore should not be taken by women who are planning to conceive or are already pregnant.
• Blood donation is prohibited for at least 1 month after and during the medication of Sotret.
• These tablets can be reactive to the sun. Avoid going out or else wear fully covered clothes and apply sunscreen.
• People on this medication who also use contact lenses might lose the power to hold them for long hours.
• No cosmetic treatments should be done on the face such as laser, dermabrasion, or waxing during and after 6 months of consuming Isotretinoin 10mg, 20mg Capsules.
• This medication can cause mental health problems and should only be taken if prescribed by your doctor.

 

Interactions:

There are some medicines that might react in a negative manner, reduce or reverse the effect of Irotin such as vitamin-a drugs (bexarotene), tetracyclines (minocycline), medicines that lead to bone loss (phenytoin, prednisone).

 

Storage:

• These tablets should be stored between 15°C and 30°C of temperature.
• These drugs should be kept away from moisture, light, and dampness.
• Keep it away from pets and children.
• Do not use expired medication.

Store these tablets in a closed container.
