Gefitinib 250mg Tablets are used to treat lung cancer. They are available as film-coated tablets, brown in color. The main ingredient is 250mg of Gefitinib. The universal name of this tablet is Iressa by which it is available in the medical market.

Purpose:

  • Iressa tablets slow down or stop the growth of cancer cells.
  • A certain protein enzyme called tyrosine kinase is blocked by Gefitinib 250mg Tablets.
  • It is also indicated for treating patients having first-line metastatic non-small cell lung cancer.
  • Patients whose tumors have epidermal growth factor receptor, exon 21, or exon 19 deletions are also prescribed these tablets.

 

Mechanism:

This tablet blinds and targets the Epidermal Growth Factor Receptors on the surface of the cell. Epidermal Growth Factor Receptors are found on the surface of many cancer and normal cells. Gefitinib 250mg Tablets bind these receptors and block a crucial pathway that encourages cell division.

 

Dosage:

  • As prescribed by your physician/doctor.
  • The recommended dosage for effective results is 250 mg, oral consumption, once daily.
  • Continue the treatment until there is unacceptable toxicity or disease progression.
  • If you can not swallow it with water, dilute the tablet in 4-8 ounces of water, mix it well for 15 minutes and take it in, in one go.
  • Ideally, the dosage is based on your response to the treatment, medical condition, lab tests, and other medicines that you might be taking simultaneously.

 

Side effects:

  • Coom side effects or Iressa are vomiting, restlessness, dizziness, nausea, diarrhea, loss of appetite, among others.
  • Serious side effects can are Alopecia, Dermatitis, Anorexia, Cardiotoxicity, Stomatitis, Renal dysfunction, Malaise, Hypotension, Memory impairment, Tremor, Urinary incontinence, Hallucinations, Myoclonus, Pulmonary edema among others. If you experience any sign of the above-stated effects, consult your doctor right away.

 

Precautions and measures:

  • Do not increase your dose of Iressa at your own ease.
  • Limit your intake of alcohol and marijuana as this drug is likely to make you feel dizzy and sleepy.
  • If you have ever had a medical history of liver disease, anemia, radiation treatment problem, kidney disease, low blood cell counts, or blockage of urination, inform your doctor before getting on this medication.
  • Do not get any vaccinations or immunizations during the tenure of Holoxan with Uromitexan injection.
  • This medication might slow down the process of healing wounds.

 

Interactions:

Some products that might react with Gefitinib 250mg Tablets are the drugs that reduce stomach acids such as famotidine, rabeprazole, ranitidine, cimetidine or lansoprazole, blood thinners such as warfarin, corticosteroids such as prednisone, NSAIDs such as naproxen, ibuprofen, and vinorelbine.
