Terazosin 1 mg, 2 mg, 5 mg tablets, with brand name Hytrin 1 mg, 2 mg, 5 mg is an anti-hypertensive drug.

Uses:

Terazosin 1 mg, 2 mg, 5 mg tablets are available only in tablets form. The medicine is used for the treatment of:

• Used to treat hypertension (high blood pressure) by relaxing blood vessels so that blood can flow with ease.
• Used to treat enlarged prostate in men, a state termed as benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH).
• Used to improve flow of urine.

 

Dosage:

Dosage form of Hytrin 1 mg, 2 mg, 5 mg is:

• For BPH- 1g /day at bed time with a gradual increase of 2 mg, 5 mg depending on the severity of the disease.
• For hypertension- 1g /day at bed time with a gradual increase of 2 mg, 5 mg depending on the condition of the patient.

 

Side effects:

Side effects caused by Hytrin 1 mg, 2 mg, 5 mg can be both major and minor. Various side effects caused by the drug are:

• Low blood pressure
• Drowsiness
• Erection problem or lack of ability to have an erection.
• Runny nose
• Problem of UTI ( urinary tract infection)
• Elevated heart rate
• Blurred vision
• Swelling in hands and legs
• Allergies such as rash and fever
• Nausea
• Pain during erection of penis
• Decreased platelet count
• Problem in iris of eye (intraoperative floppy iris syndrome)

 

Precautions and measures:

Although major side effects are detected in most of the patients yet precautions need to be taken. Certain precautionary measures to be taken while having Terazosin 1 mg, 2 mg, 5 mg tablets are:

• Inform your doctor if you are allergic to the ingredients in the medicine.
• Tell your doctor if you suffer from thrombocytopenia as the drug may decrease platelet count to a greater extent.
• If you suffer from low blood pressure tell you doctor as the drug may make the condition worse.
• If you are pregnant or planning to become pregnant inform your doctor as the drug may put negative effect on foetus.
• Not recommended for children.
• In order to reduce the risk of fall it is recommended to take the drug at bed time.
